Welcome to our Prairie Primer Blog
Jan. 11, 2006
Did you know that one Indian saved the lives of the Ingall's family?

Today we read about the Osage Indian who persuaded another group of Indians from masaquering all the white people who had settled on this particular part of the prairie that was really Indian territory. The reading today kept us on the edge of our seats, as we imagined what Laura described in the book.

Have a joyful day of learning!

We're doing the Prairie Primer as well. We finished the Little House on the Prairie book a couple of weeks ago and are now reading the Plum Creek book. I loved studying all about the Osage Indians in that book. We took a tour of our local Indian reservation museum while reading that book. Enjoy it and come visit my site if you wish. Have a good day!

Wow, your site journaling your Prairie Primer studies have brought back some precious memories. I started a co-op group of 9 families and we used the Prairie Primer as a source of great ideas for crafts, field trips, and fun learning activities. I had to leave the group for a few months to care for my mom who was dying. We read aloud The Long Winter and then These Happy Golden Years at her home during her illness. I cherish my memory of being curled up on my mom's couch with my kids....she was in her lounge chair intently listening to every word. We shared tears at the book's closing lines....
"Golden years are passing by: these happy golden years."

She wisely counseled to embrace these days when the kids are young. "Your retirement years are not your happy golden years, you are living them right now." After observing our homeschooling days through Little House on the Prairie, she affirmed I made the right choice for our family. (she had questioned our homeschooling decision from the start). Laura Ingalls has that effect on people. You learn life is one adventure after another, not always easy, but worth all the efforts when you put family first.

Enjoy your golden years with your children!

We used Prairie Primer a few years ago and LOVED IT! Earlier this week, we attended, with a home school group of moms and kids, a "Maple Syrup Tour" sponsored by our State Park System. Very interesting and one of the tour guides held up Little House in the Big Woods (where it talks about maple sugaring) and asked our group how many had ever read this....I was apalled and amazed....we were the ONLY ones! She basically went on a rant about why everyone should read the book. I was surprised, b/c as a child (WAY back in the dark ages) the Little House books were my favorites.....times have changed. I have lots of stories about when we were using the Prairie Primer....stop by my blog sometime or email me if you would like to know how it all turned out.

Hello Prairie Primer mom! I just sent you an email but it was kicked back to me, so I must post here. I'm about to order the p.p and would like to order all needed resource books at once. Which ones would you (or any other p.p moms out there) recomend?

Thank you,
Melanie Utley
