The home school conference proved to be a changing week of my life. There were a lot of things I learned. Overall the most important lesson I learned was one of love. Love sums it up.
One speaker I especially liked spoke about Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He said that Nurture = support and admonition = control. Basically training your children by having boundaries but doing it in a loving way. Paul and I realized that we were implementing all kinds of rules to get our children to behave in certain ways, but we were being very rigid and unloving. It changed my perspective on things tremendously. Just like adults, our children need to feel loved before anything else.
Another speaker gave a very simple yet very important message. He spoke about the most important thing in raising children. He asked this question-" Do your children know how much you love Jesus?" If not, everything else is pretty much inconsequential <--- hard to spell word! I desire for my children to see me as a living testimony. The greatest gift we can give our children is our personal love for God. I pray that as I draw closer to Him, my children will draw closer as well.
That is just a tiny nugget of what I learned but it is a general summary of what was most important to me. |
