Mar. 28, 2006 - ZOO FIELD TRIP

Zoo Pass: $60     Lunch for 4: $24     Souveners from the gift shop: $21   Zoo Day with your family & friends: PRICELESS

We had a really good day at the zoo Friday!  There was no sight of snow on the roads or the ground.  We left the house a little before 10 and hit the happy trail to TULSA.  Poor Shelby sat in the back of the car with Sean, Grace in the middle seat (all to herself, where she dazzled us with a beautiful rendition of ABCs and TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR).  Tara and I sat in the front and waxed philosophical about life, work and anything else that came to mind!

We arrived at the zoo by 11:30.  We found a BIG-HUGE cement table (which was in the shape of a hexagon, I believe) and ate our prepared lunch of sandwiches, chips and cookies.  BRRRrrrrrRR!  It was cold.  But once we got to the gate, the sun came out and we were even starting to get hot as we walked around (which is obvious, by the fact that Tara and I both got sunburned faces).  We saw the ELEPHANTS and ZEBRAS and AFRICAN BUFFALO.  The coolest thing that I saw was a GIRAFFE, sitting down on the ground, just relaxing in the SUN, surrounded by green grass.  I'll say, I've never seen anything like that before!  It was so ... different.  The poor thing had legs going out everywhere.  I waited and waited (which seemed to be the THEME of the day) for it to stand up.  As we were walking away, it finally did.  Man, was that cool!  It's whole body looked as if it would topple forward (but it didn't) and he stretCHED so big and tall...I felt better just watching him.  We meandored our way around to see the PENGUIN Demonstration...which was a real bust.  We waited around for nearly 30 minutes, only to see some lady feeding the silly things.  So we walked around some more and looked at the BIG CATS and a BROWN BEAR playing with a BIG red ball.  It was cute, until you realized that the bear could swallow you in 1 gulp.  We went through the PRIMATE/REPTILE house.  Grace's favorite, of course.  We saw big ugly BULL FROGS.  I must interject here, that I believe I saw 6 different "species" of TURTLES this day.  Everywhere we went, there was some sort of turtle exhibit.  We had a chat with the FLAMINGOS, on whether or not they are FLAMIN-COs or FLAMING-GOs.  We then looked at our schedule and went to the SEALION demonstration.  After waiting (again) all day to see this, we discovered that the show was only playing APRIL 1-OCTOBER 31...so, we were a little early.

We continued to the Rain Forest (where we each lost 4 lbs in sweat) and then to the Children's zoo.  I was so proud of Sean.  He and I went to pet the LLAMA.  He did so good.  He was so eager.  Except, apparently I smelled like his ex-wife who left him for the EMU, because he was all over me.  He liked to smell my hair, my chest, MY FACE.  Even gave me a kiss.  Not to bad, I might add!  Then Tara took Sean to the goat pin, where Sean chased every single GOAT to give them a good brushin'.  It was so sweet.  One in particular really seemed to like him.  They'll be writing letters to each other each month, until the goat is released for good behavior, or we break him out...whichever comes first.  We then hit the North American Houses...which we sailed right thru.  And ended with the chimps, where Sean had been playing and got a splinter.  Poor baby!  And about the time I was trying to pull it out, Grace woke up from her nap.  She had missed all the last paragraph above...she's reading this now, to see what she missed.

We headed out the door and returned home in one piece.  We had a great time.  Daddy was waiting for us and eager to kiss and smell on us.  He didn't smell the scent of the kiss I had received earlier that day.  I made sure to shower before coming to bed...maybe, he'll never know....

Eew about the kiss! hee hee I think I need to visit the rain forest - maybe I'd shed a few pounds. Sounds like you really had a fun day! I'm sorry about you having to start a new blog though. Major bummer!! Just think of it as spring cleaning - you get to start out with a brand new clean slate! = ) Blessings, ~Kim~
