Oct. 22, 2008 - Science Day
Yesterday we did a lot of science experiments. They were about water.
Our first experiment was about floating and sinking. We tested 5 items and only 2 of my hypothesis' were right.
Then we tested the force of water with a balloon. And I had a bit of trouble blowing it up.
The water pushed the balloon.
I learned that the shape of things helps it float or sink. The round ball of clay dropped straight to the bottom.
I made the ball into a boat and it floated. The water level with the boat got higher. The shape of the boat made the water push back more.
I tested 2 boats. One was made of foil and one was a meat tray. I loaded the boats with "cargo" of rocks.
The foil boat sunk because all the rocks were in the middle.
The meat tray worked good if the rocks were spread out. It sunk if they were all on one side.
Last I made a submarine out of a can.
If you fill it with water it sinks.
If you blow out all of the water it rises.
The submarine was my favorite!
Kayleigh ate grass while I worked.
