When Is Enough Enough?

This is something I posted to some of my groups at the beginning of this month so I thought I would be it here as well.

I'd like to know at what point enough is enough and you put your kid(s) back in ps. I mean we take them out for our own reasons and put them back for our own reasons but what do you do when you have hit a wall. My son is just not doing his work without me begging, pleading, or yelling. Even then it takes all day to do it. Today we had errands to run so he brought with him his grammar and math. We left the house a little past 9:00 am and it is now 3:54 pm and he has done 2 subjects (a total of 4 pages between the two). And after just promising me again he would do his work the way he should I just had to stop typing to go get him (he walked away from his school work and started playing with his brother).

I know that if I send him back it is going to be hell dealing with what I dealt with when he was in K ps (boarded out of his mind) but I just don't know what to do with him anymore. The more the he promises me he will do the work, the more he doesn't. Please don't let this be a slam session on me cause I'm not really in the mood.

I really would like to hear from anyone but maybe some one who has put their children back into school and how it went. Maybe I could hear from some of the kids that went back and how they thought it went. Even better hear from someone who went back and then came home again because they realized the grass wasn't greener or they realized that no matter where they were they had to do the work. Thanks in advance.

Monday, October 2, 2006 - Hitting a wall

Take a break. Durring our breaks I let them read and watch educational TV, that means I think it is educational not that it is advertised that way! We bake we play out side, we snuggle, we read aloud to eachother. After a few of these breaks my husband and I decided that they were learning more durring our breaks, so now we only do the "school work" when they need to learn something for a project they are doing and the rest of the time we are on a break. Now they remember what I teach them and think learning is fun instead of a chore. Even if you never take it as far as we have a short break will help. Remember why you decided to homeschool in the first place those reasons are probably still valid and had a bit to do with enjoying your son while he was still young and thinks your the bestest smartest person in the whole wide world. Take a day to just soak that in. Good luck.
