About Me:
A sword rang as it was drawn. "Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may."
"Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man can hinder me!"
Then Merry heard of all sounds in that hour the strangest. It seemed that Dernhelm laughed, and the clear voice was like the ring of steel. "But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him."
....
Eowyn it was, and Dernhelm also. For into Merry's mind flashed the memory of the face that he saw at the riding from Dunharrow: the face of one that goes seeking death, having no hope. Pity filled his heart and great wonder, and suddenly the slow-kindled courage of his race awoke. He clenched his hand. She should not die, so fair, so desperate. At least she should not die alone, unaided.
...
Out of the wrech rose the Black Rider, tall and threatening, towering above her. With a cry of hatred that stung the very ears like venom he let fall his mace. Her shield was shivered in many pieces, and her arm was broken; she stumbled to her knees. He bent over her like a cloud, and his eyes glittered; he raised his mace to kill.
But suddenly he too stumbled forward with a cry of bitter pain, and his stroke went wide, driving into the ground. Merry's sword had stabbed him from behind, shearing through the black mantle, and passing up beneath the hauberk had pierced the sinew behind his mighty knee.
"Eowyn! Eowyn!" cried Merry. Then, tottering, struggling up, with her last strength she drove her sword between the grown and mantle, as the great shoulders bowed before her. The sword broke sparkling into many shards. The crown rolled away with a clang. Eowyn fell forward upon her fallen foe. But lo! the mantle and hauberk were empty. Shapeless they lay now on teh ground, torn and tumbled; and a cry went up into the shuddering air, and faded to a shrill wailing, passing with the wind, a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up, and was never heard again in that age of this world.

The Write Words | 91 entries, 51 comments | | Listed in Homeschool Student | | Two of my favourite authors, JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis, were part of a group of published and aspiring writers called INKLINGS. They met at a local pub just before it got chaotic and full of people and read their current works to their fellow writers. It was in this group that JRR Tolkien was persuaded to writer a sequel to his masterpiece 'The Hobbit', which resulted in my favourite books of all time, Lord of the Rings, and CS Lewis was converted back to Christianity and started writing the Chronicles of Narnia. If I had lived back then and was the right age and lived there, I would have loved to be part of the Inklings. But since I'm thirteen, not a professor at Oxford and living now, here, in this time we called the 2000s, I'll be content with this blog. The Write Words are what every writer searches for. They're what I search for when I write a blog post, a essay on dolphins or just one of my horse stories. They're what I look for in a good book. They're what I watch for in movies and on TV. I might not be a hobbit or a faun, or even just a published writer yet. And maybe this description isn't exactly of what my blog is about. Maybe it's more about my aspirations. But I am me. Emma. Thirteen and a writer in her own life and way. But in my heart and in my head, I'll always be an Inkling.
Enjoy! :D | Historica | 3 entries, 1 comments | | Listed in Classical | | History. History is the story of mankind. Of people. Of individuals. History is full of terror and death and war and poverty. But it's also full of love and life and peace and all those wonderful qualities that it possesses that makes us so drawn to it. I love history. It's the story of our world. And even though many people consider history to be boring, it's not. Really. Look it in the face. There's more to it then meets the eye. |
