• Aug. 23, 2006 - Played Hooky!
We played hooky Monday and headed off to the local waterpark! Since public school has started there wasn't any crowds and we had a blast! Everybody needs a day to play hooky. My kids thought I was the greatest mom!
Today was back to routine. MP did extra math work just because he wanted too. I almost fell out of my chair. CP is doing a great job learning new words everyday. She still ask at least 3 times during school time "Is it playtime yet?" She still remembers kindergarten having a playtime. I tell her if she went to regular school there would not be any playtime in 1st grade. So when I am working one on one with Micah, I give her that "playtime" she wants.
My oldest called me from college today. For money of course! He has a sore thoat, I hope he is getting enough sleep. Today was the 2nd day of fall classes. He tells me all his teachers seem decent so far. Books are a fortune, we are finding out.
His job is not working out. Too far, too much gas and there is tollbooths that add up the cost. So far I think the job is costing ME! I told him to find a job closer to campus.
We went to Park Day today. MP is finally making friends. CP had fun with her new friends too. Mommy had a nice time sharing with other moms too. It is kind of my Park Day too. |

• Aug. 19, 2006 - Science at home!

This is our little homeschool area in our dining room. We actually don't use this table much because the dining table is so much bigger. I was trying to keep my table from getting scatches but it is such much easier to have the space.
Friday 08/18 we did our first experiment with science. We made two gliders. One with a skinny wing and another with a wider wing. We tested to see how far they would fly. The children recorded thier results in their science journal.
We had done our science experiment outside. It was a little strange to be out in the neighborhood during school hours. Our neighbors know we homeschool. The elemenary school the kids went to last year can be seen from our house. It is the back of the school. So when we went outside for science, we could see the children at school having PE class (gym class). The children looked down at the school and you could tell by their faces they are so happy to be at home. |

• Aug. 18, 2006 - Co-op meet and greet, ducks and science (the stupid dog), and going out in public during school hours
Today we went to the meet and greet at a local co-op. They have a nice facilty to use. It will meet once a week on Thursdays for eight weeks. I signed up my son for a lego engineering class and our daughter for a art class. Then we will take a cooking around the world class together. My son wasn't won over by it (my little eeyore). So we only signed up for two classes for each child. So hopefully the kids will have fun.
I had a terrible case of insomina last night so we did only the basics today so I could have a nice nap before going to work tonight. The children did not object and enjoyed the afternoon off to do quiet activities. Cassidy painted a wonderful mermaid picture. Micah built a lego replica model of the one he had seen at the co-op today. I was amazed at how he had replicated what the teacher had made. So the afternoon may have been quiet but the children used their imaginations today!
For science today we had a group of ducks in our front yard with some baby ducks (more like teenager ducks, not a scientific term). The kids fed them because they saw us bringing groceries into the house and they were heading for our front door. That's science, right? Then later our dog got out the front door when one of the kids opened it and she chased all those poor ducks. After I screamed like a maniac she ran into her crate because she knew I was upset with her. (No ducks were injured in the making of this blog)
One more thing, today was the first time we went out in public while it was school hours. We went to my work to pick up a check (yeah, money but the college kid somehow gets it) and went to the grocery store. I was ready to get comments from strangers asking me why wern't my children in school. Guess what, not a single comment. I think I was almost disappointed. I was all ready with my catchy little comebacks.
Enough for one day! |

• Aug. 16, 2006 - History WIth Nana!
Today we did our first project with history. I wanted the children to understand history is in their own family. So Micah and Cassidy called Nana (long distance) and they conducted a interview with her. They asked her many questions regarding her childhood. The children really enjoyed finding out more about their Nana.
Thank you Nana!! |

• Aug. 13, 2006 - Our First Day
Our first day was Monday, August 7, 2006. We started at 9am after family devotions. I have a homeschool area set up in our dining room. Micah did not want me to to put our school area in the playroom becuase he wants that room to look cool. So I have a "cheap" table set up against a wall in the dining room. So we started with bible study. I have a program that the children make stick figures about the bible people we are learning. This week is an overview of the old testament. Next we moved to math. A lot of review for this week. As we were working at the table, Micah tells me the table leg is moving.
I look and it is folding under and there is no time to save our student lamp. The leg folds in and my lamp crashes into a million pieces. There was probably a science and math lesson to learn about the lamp breaking into millions of sharp glass all over my tile floor but I didn't care at that time. I did laugh it off and we moved all our stuff to the actual dining table which is so much more stable and it does give us more space to work on. So our dining table may be our offical area to homeschool. The first day did go well even withour mishap. |
