Tuesday, November 13, 2007 - Card to Our Soldiers
Save the stamp. I received an e-mail the other day that so many may have already received. It read:
In anticipation of the coming season I felt this was a suggestion worth passing along:
When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address:
(The address given here)
If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these people who have sacrificed so much would get.
I thought this would be an great idea for the kids to get involved with, but upon further investigation I found the following information:
One of the results of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 is that the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail addressed to "Any Service Member," "A Recovering American Soldier," or any similar generic addressee. This is to protect our American servicemen and women. According to a statement dated November 8, 2007, the Walter Reed Army Medical Center will not accept such mail at its facility (though mail addressed to specific individuals will still go through).
Please go to the Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital website to read the full statement.
If you are interested in sending a card or letter to a service member check out this page at America Supports You for an extensive list of ways to show your appreciation. And as always keep our brave men and women who serve our country and their families in your thoughts and prayers every day.

Thanks for the info. We are blessed this season that all of the servicemen/women we know are home this holiday season.
Blessings,
Dawn

I had heard this a while ago too, but didn't know about the last website to get an actual name. Thanks!

I have a friend who took her kids with her dh to the local military hospital here that specializes in special treatments and has a burn unit. They visited with many of our servicemen from the Middle East. My dh does this sometimes too.
Blessings,
