Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - Blogger Friend School Assignment 27

Nancy writes:

Hello everyone!  I thought it would be nice to get to know one another's Favorite Bible Story...not necessarily a story in the Bible but the story of what your favorite Bible verse or story is and why.  This will probably be a very easy assignment for us all but with warmer weather well on it's way, I know how hard it is to stay indoors, even for school work.  Have fun with it and remember we only have two more BFS assignments left!

There are so many Bible Stories that I love that narrowing it down to one is a difficult choice.  I really appreciate the stories of friendship throughout Scripture.  Like Nancy, I love the story of Naomi and Ruth and the devoted friendship they shared.  The story of David and Jonathan also displays the values that were placed on friendship, as did the stories of Job and his three friends and Paul and Timothy. I really like the parable that Jesus told in Luke 11:5-10 about the friend that came in the middle of the night for food. Then Jesus told that a friend opens the door just as He opens the door to us.

I’m not sure if you would consider this a Bible story, but one of my favorite passages has to be when Jesus told John what a true friend is in John 15:13-15, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

I love that verse! It always brings a big lump to my throat that our Saviour would lay down His life for us - and that He considers us as friends.
Thanks for sharing
