After reading my copy of the book “And Then Mama Said…It Takes Time to Learn to Read” by Gena Suarez and illustrated by Kevin Collier, I was excited about the opportunities sharing this lovely book presented.  More than just an adorable tale about a frog, it is a book of encouragement.  As a mother of two children who struggled for years with reading I was pleased that someone has addressed the issue in an enlightening way. It reinforces the fact that everything is in God’s time and inspires perseverance and patience. The lively, bright illustrations are delightful and playful to look at. This book is a great read-a-loud for any family.  The companion activity book is filled with ways to keep the fun going.  There are copywork pages with simple sentences for the younger child and older children will learn interesting facts about the animals the characters represent with more complex copywork.  The coloring pages, also created by the illustrator, will inspire creativity.  “And Then Mama Said…It takes Time to Learn to Read” and its companion activity book will make a wonderful gift for any child.
