Tuesday, September 15, 2009 - Are You a Pack Rat?
I wouldn't exactly call us "pack rats" but I sure do like to hang onto things as long as I have someplace to put it. I have memories from as far back as the 2nd grade. I keep them safe in my hope chest. Just can't bring myself to throw mementos away.
| You're a Pack Rat in Training |
![]() Well, you're training to be one. Time to do some spring cleaning. Even if it isn't spring! |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 - Honest Scrap Award
My friend Jennifer over at For Such A Time As This gave me this award a week or so ago and I humbly accept it.

Here are the rules regarding this award:
In accepting this award I need to do the following:
Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award.
Share ten honest things about myself.
Present this award to seven others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
Tell those seven people that they have been awarded the Honest Scrap and inform them of the guidelines for receiving their award.
So here are my 10 honest things about myself in no particular order of importance.
1. I don’t like to follow recipes. I always seem to add my own touches to them and don’t seem to stick to the measurements.
2. And speaking of cooking, I really dislike the whole thing. I don’t like trying to figure out what to make for meals. But I really love to bake.
3. I totally love homeschooling, homemaking and being a wife. There is no better calling in my opinion.
4. I am outrageously tenderhearted. I am moved to tears during sentimental movies. I have even been known to cry over sappy TV show episodes and commercials. (Have you seen the ASPCA commercial that Sarah McLachlan does? I have to change the channel.)
5. I have very few people that I call friend. I have loads of acquaintances, but very few true friends.
6. I really love my job and all the opportunities that have come my way over the past three years.
7. I love cold sheets and flip my pillow often at night for the coolness. But I don’t like to be cold. Go figure.
8. I don’t like to shop. I try to do what I need as quick as I can to get it over with.
9. I very rarely wear make-up because to me it’s too much work, but when I do I love the way I look. But then again, even though I thoroughly remove it, you can bet I will have a zit in a few days.
10. I feel so guilty that I don’t make the time to swing by all my blogger buddies blogs to leave comments. I usually try to stay caught up using the RSS.
So how’s that for coming clean?
Now I need to pick 7 blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me. That’s a hard one because I love all the blogs I read. So to narrow it down to 7 was really hard.
Dawn over at my4sweetums. She always encourages me by sharing her ups and downs of life at her home. She inspires me with her creativity and how she homeschools her children. She is an awesome lady whom I admire greatly.
Heidi at Reviews by Heidi. My dear friend Heidi always has the most interesting posts both about the books she reviews and about her life. I especially enjoy her destination Disney meme. And she is always coming up with great finds. This girl is amazing. I have no idea how she does it all.
Anne-Marie at Song of the Sagebrush. Ann-Marie writes the loveliest poetry and allows me to have a glimpse into life on a ranch. She is ever so encouraging to me and I love reading about her family adventures on the farm.
Kellie Ann at The Pirate Mom Dot Com. I absolutely love the down-to-earth humor Kellie uses in her posts. She tells it like it is no holds barred and it usually is a hoot. Her blog is a great pick me up for any day.
Carol at School in ‘R Home. She always has something fun and wonderful to share on her blog. Her posts are always colorful and as full of life as I bet her homeschool is. She is so clever.
Bridget at purity seekers -- psalm 119:140. To me this is homemaker extraordinaire. I enjoy reading the recipes she shares and all her crafty posts. And her tales of raising her children are warm and lovely.
And last but certainly not least, is Leah, who has two blogs I love to follow, Good Reads and The Courtney Six. On Good Reads she gives her honest opinion on various books that she has read and on The Courtney Six she shares her life with her readers. I so appreciate her candor and honesty.
Thank you again Jennifer for passing this award on to me.

Monday, February 23, 2009 - Virginia Needs...
I thought this would be fun to do. I saw it on my friend Heidi's blog.
You are to type "(your first name) needs" into the Google search engine and then list the first ten results. It's supposed to be funny and you're supposed to put an asterisk beside the ones that are actually true about you. Didn't quite work out for me. I tried "Ginny needs" but the results were nothing I wanted to post. So I did my given name. Notice there are no asterisks.
My results are below:
Virginia Needs a Moratorium on the Death Penalty
Virginia Needs More Charter Schools
Virginia Needs This Fighting Democrat
Virginia Needs Assessment
...Virginia needs to stop it
Virginia needs to avoid the siren song of a gross receipts tax and focus on broadening tax bases and lowering
Virginia Needs More Money for Transportation
Virginia needs some stealthy goalie pads
Virginia Needs Power
Virginia Needs Spending Reform...
Having the first name of a state kind of kills the comedy of this one.

Friday, February 13, 2009 - Anniversary Give Away
I know that I have been MIA all week and lately my posts have been sporadic at best. As you already know, last year I began selling my e-copybooks in the Old Schoolhouse Store. It has been an awesome experience and has led to other opportunities. Those adventures have included creating all the copywork pages for the Schoolhouse Planner Modules and other TOS products, writing an article for the Winter 2008-2009 Old Schoolhouse Magazine, and working part time as a Schoolhouse Store Administrator. Add this to homeschooling middle and high school students, homemaking, being a Girl Scout leader, wife, cook and chief bottle washer and you can see that life is very full for me. And I know it is full for all of you.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009 - Procrastinator? Who Me?
| You Are a Bit of a Procrastinator |
![]() You have no problem getting the fun or easy stuff done. You generally enjoy taking care of responsibilities. However, if a task arises that you dislike, it might get shelved for a long time. And even though it's human nature to procrastinate, your procrastination is hindering your productivity. Take a look at the things you are putting off doing. Do they really need to be done? Complete any task that's important. The other stuff you're procrastinating is probably not worth doing. |

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 - What Color Christmas Tree?
A few weeks ago, my daughter and I were going into our local Walmart. This was well before Thanksgiving and they were already setting up their holiday displays. My daughter's attention was drawn to the Christmas tree display and her eyes spotted what she considered the perfect tree for her room. It was purple. "Purple?" I say. It stood beside the pink, blue and red trees. Now, I don't know about you, but when I was growing up the only color trees I ever saw were green and an occasional white tree for those more adventurous types. So when I saw this little quiz on Blogthings, I just had to see what color tree they thought I should have.
| You Should Have a Blue Christmas Tree |
![]() You avoid family fights, and you don't get too stressed out - even when things are crazy! You like to make Christmas about making everyone's life a little bit better. You don't get caught up in greed or commercialism. You're too sincere for that. Your blue tree would look great with: Lots of silver tinsel You should spend Christmas Eve watching: It's a Wonderful Life What you should bake for Christmas: Chocolate chip cookies |
Go figure. Needless to say, we are sticking with the traditional green. Call me old fashioned, but I have never seen a purple tree growing wild.

You have plenty of time and resources to devote to friends. While you are quite hyper, you do understand the importance of rest. It's difficult to get yourself to slow down, but when you do, you enjoy it. |

Friday, October 17, 2008 - Proximidade Award
My dear friend Heidi gave me this award this week. I have been blessed in so many ways by ‘meeting’ her through the blogging world. She always encourages me and lifts me up. I am so excited to be meeting her in person next week in Tennessee. I feel like we are kindred spirits.

According to {I}Post, the translation of the award is "This blog invests and believes, in the proximity"[meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' -being close through proxy]. I'm suppose to pass this on to 8 people.
This was super hard pick because everyone has been such a blessing to me over the years. But I finally decided on 8.
In no particular order I pass this award onto:
Ann Marie –Song of the Sagebrush
Dawn – my4sweetums
Kellie Ann –Hilltop Academy
Laurie – Teacups in the Garden
School in ‘R Home
Crossview
Leah- Courtney Family Happenings
Kristie – Welcome to Our Hive
Be sure to visit these wonderful ladies and explore their blogs. They are filled with all kinds of wonderful things.
