Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - State Study Motto Copybook and Notebook Pages Sampler
I will be away from my computer for about a week. I thought while I was away I’d let you view a sampler of my State Study Motto Copybook and Notebook Pages e-book. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. I chose a few pages from the cursive and the manuscript books. And seeing that I hail from South Carolina, I used those pages. Let me know what you think. If you really like them, you may purchase the whole book from the Old Schoolhouse Store. Remember these are only a sample of the 168 pages included. All 50 states are covered and there are a whole lot more notebooking pages to chose from.

Monday, July 21, 2008 - Hubby Tag
We have been keeping ourselves active with all kinds of projects this summer so I've been kind of "blogged" down for time in writing posts. I've seen this tag around and thought it made for a good post. If you do this tag let me know. I'd love to read your answers.
1. Who is your man? Billy
2. How long have you been together? Been together 25+ years, married 24 in October.
3. How long dated? About a year and an half.
4. How old is your man? 4 years older than I am and you’ll have to figure out how old I am. LOL
5. Who eats more? It’s a tie
6. Who said "I love you" first? I wanted to, but he did.
7. Who is taller? He is.
8. Who sings better? me
9. Who is smarter? We both have our strong subjects.
10. Whose temper is worse? We both have our moments.
11. Who does the laundry? I almost always do.
12. Who takes out the garbage? He usually does.
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do.
14. Who pays the bills? He earns the money, I spend it.
15. Who is better with the computer? Definitely me.
16. Who mows the lawn? We both do, although he prefers to do it.
17. Who cooks dinner? I do.
18. Who drives when you are together? It depends. He usually does mostly because he picks on my driving. You know how professional drivers can be.
19. Who pays when you go out? I do, but again that’s because he earns the money and I spend it . LOL
20. Who is most stubborn? I think it’s a toss up.
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? Wrong? Who’s ever wrong? Lol No, seriously, neither one of us has a problem with admitting when we are wrong.
22. Whose parents do you see the most? Mine, because they live close by.
23. Who kissed who first? He kissed me.
24. Who asked who out? He asked me out. It was funny, because his room mate at the time wanted to ask me out but couldn’t get up the nerve. So my husband asked him if he could ask me out. I’m so glad he did. I wasn’t interested in his roommate.
25. Who proposed? He did after asking my parents first.
26. Who is more sensitive? That would have to be me for sure.
27. Who has more friends? Hard to say. We have a lot of acquaintances but few people we call friends.
28. Who has more siblings? That’s kind of sad. He had a brother and 3 sisters, but his brother died from SIDS at 2 when my husband was about 12, and one of his sisters died a few years ago at 40 from cancer. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters.
29. Who wears the pants in the family? My husband is the head of our house, but he respects and values my opinions and we often compromise, though he has the final say.
30. How did you meet? A mutual friend introduced us. I wrote about our meeting back in October if you want more detail.

Friday, July 18, 2008 - Flashback Friday-Leisure
Kellieann at Hilltop Academy hosts Flashback Friday. You have to swing by her blog and see what she has written about.
I love this picture of my daughter when she was 2 years old. She is the picture of a leisurely Southern Lady. If you look closely you will notice not only is she on a float with a swim ring around her belly, but she also has a life vest on. We didn’t take any chances.

Thursday, July 17, 2008 - Kitten Update
Willow’s kittens are thriving. At a little over three weeks, they have begun to teeter-totter around. We had to move them to a large storage tub because they had started to climb out of their shorter one. They always seem to head straight for my husband's rocker recliner whenever they are loose. We have given them temporary names, even though as soon as they are old enough they will be adopted out. They may all look the same to you but believe me there are distinct differences. From left to right, let me introduce the boys; Boots, Garfield, Whiner, and Sacko.
Boots acts like he is the oldest and the boldest.
Garfield tends to try to eat whenever Willow gets near and he is the chubbiest.
Whiner, well I think the name says it. Whenever he is picked up he cries.
My daughter named Sacko. (She just liked the word) He has the least stripes in his fur and follows Boots around.
Aren’t they adorable? And so sweet just like their momma.
It is hard to believe that some say animals don’t have feelings. They probably never had pets.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - Upside-Down Pineapple Blueberry Cheesecake Muffin Cake
(Now that title is a mouthful)
Last night I was trying a new recipe for Sesame Chicken that called for about a cup of crushed pineapple. I only had a 14-ounce can on hand so that left me with about half a can of pineapple leftover. So I thought I’d make a small upside down pineapple cake using a Jiffy yellow cake mix. I began to melt 3 tablespoons of butter in the oven and went to mix the cake batter. When I opened the cake mix I found that critters (moths) had moved in so I had to throw it away. I had the same problem with another box. By this time the butter was melted and I was frustrated because I didn’t want to waste the butter or have to clean a pan I really hadn’t used. So I went to the pantry and looked at the other mixes I had on hand. I saw that I had 2-7 ounce packages of Martha White Blueberry Cheesecake Muffin mix and thought, "Why not?" The following is what I came up with.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2-7 oz packages Martha White Blueberry Cheesecake Muffin mix
@ 1 cup crushed pineapple, juice drained into a measuring cup
Enough milk added to pineapple juice to make 1 cup
Heat oven to 425°. In the oven, melt 3 tablespoons of butter in an 8” by 8” square pan. After butter is melted, add the brown sugar. Spread the butter and brown sugar mixture evenly to cover the bottom of the pan. Spoon the crushed pineapple on top of the brown sugar, spreading evenly.
After adding enough milk to the reserved pineapple juice to make 1 cup, in a separate bowl combine with the muffin mix and stir until blended.
Pour batter evenly over pineapple layer. Bake at 425° for about 25 to 30 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for about 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto a plate.
Makes about 8 servings.
Needless to say, it came out delicious. It was very moist and sweet. I wish I had the foresight to have taken a picture last night, but I really wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. I have been know to throw things together that could be construed as unfit for human consumption. I did get a picture this morning of the last piece that was left, but it will be gone as soon as one of the kids gets up.

Friday, July 11, 2008 - Sew Crafty Friday-Bag Keeper

Shereen at Waiting for Him hosts Sew Crafty Friday.

This grocery bag keeper is a simple project that I think any novice sewer could create. Mine is made with a piece of scrap fabric about 17” by 18”, 20” of elastic, 20” of matching ribbon, fusible web, and a fabric cutout. I used the left over picture from a bunny cut out project.
The first thing I did was to fuse the fabric cutout onto the web, cut it out along the pattern edges and then fused it to the center of the 17” by 18” piece of fabric. I then zigzag stitched all around the edges of the cutout with matching thread.

Next I folded down about 1/4'” on each 18” edge, pressed it, then folded another ¾” and pressed that. Then I stitched across forming the casing. I cut the elastic into 10” pieces and fed them through the casings, stitching them at each end to secure. Next I folded the fabric in half, right sides together, and stitched up the side seam. Finally I folded the ribbon in half and attached it to the inside of the top of the bag at the seam.
This is a super quick and easy project. I think it would be a great one to use for teaching young ones to sew and would be a practical gift.
I searched the web and found all kinds of variations to making a bag keeper.

Thursday, July 10, 2008 - Virtual Homeschool Conference
Now here is one contest you don’t want to miss out on. Heidi at Reviews by Heidi has 5, count them, 5 tickets to the Heart of the Matter’s Online Homeschool Virtual Conference. I have really wanted to go to one of these conferences but have not been able to. This one will have some really wonderful speakers like Jeanie Fulbright, Sheila Wray Gregoire, Teri Johnson, and Amy Pak to name but a few. The best part of these virtual conferences, besides the ‘stay-at-home’ format, is that if you are unable to attend on the scheduled days, you can still listen to the speakers at your convenience. Go over to Heidi’s blog for all the details and enter for your chance to attend.
