Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - HIADD

Posted in Whimsy

While taking a few minutes the other day I stumbled across a must read post on Gina’s blog at Learning Legacy that described symptoms I have been having for a few years now. I was beginning to worry and seriously thought about seeking medical attention. Memory loss seemed to be prevalent. So often I go to do one thing only to forget what it was that I was going to do.  Rarely will you find me without a book or notebook in my hand, and to just sit and do nothing is unheard of.  Imagine my relief when I found Gina’s blog and recognized my life in her post.  I am so relieved that there is a name for it. It’s called Homeschool Induced Attention Deficit Disorder or HIADD for short.  I just thought I was getting old.  Now that I have diagnosed myself, I feel so much better and a whole lot less like I’m losing my mind.  What a comfort it is to know that I am not alone.

Thursday, May 22, 2008 - What American accent do you have?

Posted in Whimsy

You know how I love these silly little quizzes and they're great when time just isn't allowing me to write.

Spending my childhood days located near Boston, then moving to western Massachusetts in my teen years, and having lived here in the south for over 15 years, I was a little surprised by these results.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

The Northeast

The Inland North

Philadelphia

The West

Boston

The South

North Central

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - A Big Thank You and a Couple of Silly Sites

Posted in Whimsy

I want to send out a big THANK YOU to the Homeschool Lounge.  My name was pulled in this month’s drawing for a $25 gift certificate at Amazon and a T-shirt from the Homeschool Boutique.  I am so tickled at how God blesses my life.  I also want to thank all the well-wishers who stopped by to congratulate me.  What a warm and wonderful community there is at the Homeschool Lounge!  If you haven’t been over there yet you should check it out.  Though our days are filled with schoolbooks, ball games, lessons, errands, and all the other things that occupy our time, it’s nice to know that you can fellowship with others with just a quick hello or spend time gleaming from others' experiences.  Tiany has down a wonderful job and has blessed the homeschool community greatly.

I thought I’d share a few silly links that have come into my e-mail lately.

Want to know how old you really are based on your life style?  Want to know how long your potential life span is?  Take this little quiz to find out.

Real Age

My mom sent me this one and I was shocked to find that my “real age” was 26 and that I should live to be 94.  Now if only I could convince my body that I was 26.

My son sent me this silly site to play with.  It really does make you chuckle and it's good for the environment because there’s nothing to throw away.  Have fun.

Thursday, May 8, 2008 - What Kind of Sandwich are You?

Posted in Whimsy

With everything that has been going on around here this week the meal of convenience has been the trusty sandwich, so this bloggy thing seemed an appropriate post.

You Are a Grilled Cheese Sandwich
You are a traditional person with very simple tastes.
In your opinion, the best things in life are free, easy, and fun.
You totally go with the flow. And you enjoy every minute of it!

Your best friend: The Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Your mortal enemy: The Ham Sandwich

I really thought I'd turn out to be more of a grinder with all the fixings, but you never can tell.  I don't know what it is about these silly bloggy things, but they are fun.

Monday, April 28, 2008 - What Type of Fruit are You?

Posted in Whimsy

Here's another silly blog thing that I found interesting.  This one more closely describes how I might see myself, except for the thick skin part. My folks might get a kick out of me trying to find my inner fruit.  What type of fruit are you?

You Are an Orange
You have a zest for life, especially for anything colorful, wild, or dramatic.
You have a unique take on the world, and you're not afraid to be a little funky.

You are a bit reserved toward people who don't know you well.
You have a thick skin, which can protect you from anything that goes wrong in your life.

Once someone does get to know you, they totally get and appreciate you.
Your friends see you as a bright person with a refreshing take on life.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - What Kind of Flower are You?

Posted in Whimsy

You Are An Iris
You are a unique person who seeks out novelty in life.
An inspiration seeker, you often have to change scenery to recharge.
You don't deal well with structure or rules. You need to do it your own way.
Your ideal relationships are free and flowing. No one can tie you down.

I think this one sort of describes me, although I really like some kind of structure and rules, and I think that my husband would disagree with the 'No one can tie you down' statement seeing that we've been together for over 25 years, married for 23, and have lived in the same home for over 15.   I do like irises though.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 - You May Live In South Carolina

Posted in Whimsy

Someone sent this to me in an e-mail and I thought it was cute.  (And could be so true)

What Jeff Foxworthy has to say about people in South Carolina:

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you may live in South Carolina.

If you are 'fixin' to go anywhere or do anything, you may live in South Carolina.

If you've worn shorts on Christmas day, you may live in South Carolina.

If you've had a telephone conversation with a wrong number, you may live in South Carolina.

If 'vacation' means going to Myrtle Beach for a week, you may live in South Carolina.

If you install security alarms on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in South Carolina.

If you carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in South Carolina

If the speed limit on the highway is 55, you're going 70 and everybody is passing you, you may live in South Carolina

If you find 60 degrees 'a little chilly', you may live in South Carolina.

If you take time off work to watch college football,  you may live in South Carolina.

If you know the names of any NASCAR drivers besides Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon, you may live in South Carolina.

If you think iced tea only comes pre-sweetened, you may live in South Carolina.

If you know two or more people named 'Bubba', you may live in South Carolina.

If you think that all Yankee college students should move back home upon graduation, you may live in South Carolina.

If you actually understand these jokes, and share them with your friends, you definitely live in South Carolina

Thursday, March 27, 2008 - Tag 5

Posted in Whimsy

I was tagged by my4sweetums.

You already know so much about me from the other tags, but it’s been a while so I thought I’d participate.

(If you haven’t read the other 7 tags I’ve done and want to know more, check these out: Blog 50-Tagged, Tagged Again, Tagged, Yet Again, Tag 4, Historical Tag, 10 Question Tag, Scategories Tag)

5 random facts about myself:

  1. All three of my children were delivered by midwives and the last two by the same midwife.  I never even saw an OB/GYN for any of my pregnancies.
  2. I wore glasses for a few years when I was younger, then I didn’t need them anymore.  Now that age has set in, I can’t read a thing without my drug store glasses.
  3. I never was big on make up and didn’t wear it until a few years ago.  Now I wear it for church on Sunday (occasionally) and for special occasions.
  4. I hate to be late, but with children it seems inevitable.
  5. When we built our first home over 20 years ago, I was the ‘contractor’, even though I had never done it before.

5 weird things about myself:

I don’t know if these will count as weird but some may think so.

  1. I don’t like ketchup, mustard or hotdogs.
  2. I never had problems with pimples.  Never had any until I had children.  My children have not been so lucky.
  3. I am prone to spontaneous singing and dancing.  Drives my kids crazy.
  4. I tend to strike up conversations with just about anyone, anywhere.
  5. I drive my husband crazy when I answer the questions from quiz shows before they finish asking them.

5 things on my desk

What isn’t on my desk?

  1. notes
  2. pens and pencils
  3. a container of pretzels
  4. pictures of the family
  5. a mess

5 of your best friends:

  1. Jesus
  2. My husband
  3. Mom
  4. Dad
  5. My children

I’m suppose to tag 5 people, but don’t feel obligated.

I tag:

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 - Name the States

Posted in Whimsy

I saw this on Heidi's blog and I couldn't resist.  I had the hardest time remembering Kansas and then I kept messing up on the spelling trying to type too fast.  This really was fun, you really have to try it.  Heidi always finds the coolest things. After you're done playing, be sure to go to her blog.  There are still a few more days to enter her awesome spring give-away.
