Mar. 25, 2008 - Tightwad Tuesday - homemade shampoos

http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Canadagirl/
Shampoo:
1 c. water
1/2 c. liquid soap or inexpensive shampoo
1/2 c. glycerine
1/4 c. borax
Mix and let it thicken overnight.

Another one:
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. liquid soap (or castile)
1/2 t. light vegetable oil.  (If you have oily hair, omit.)
Mix well.

I have used the first one for quite a while.  I do have to lather it twice, but it is still cheaper than using the expensive brands that I'd been using in the past.  It makes my hair feel very soft and smooth.  DH loves the feel of my hair with it, provided I don't use gel to make my hair stiff!

Mar. 25, 2008 - Interesting idea

Posted by bubbebobbie

I always add water to the last bits of my shampoo to get it out of the bottle, but I find the dollar store is the right price.
When we were kids my mom always rinsed our hair with vinegar as a conditioner. What do you use?

That is a great idea. I had never thought of making my own shampoo. THanks for sharing!

You make your own shampoos? That's really cool. I would never have thought of that. Thanks for sharing the recipes. Do you add a scent of any kind? Do they have a strong enough scent for young teens? My daughter's hair smell all the time, within just a short while after washing -- even when I supervise! I would love to find a shampoo that helped with her issue.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am on the hunt for tightwad shampoos. Have you ever seen a recipe for a shampoo soap bar ? I really am trying to lesson the amount of plastic bottles.

I have dry scalp issues. I'm assuming this recipe would probably be better for my scalp than regular shampoos but I also have dry curly hair. So, my question is, do you still use a conditioner with this shampoo for your hair? Thanks for sharing all your great tips and devotions!

Yes, I always use conditioner. I add water to my conditioner to stretch it.
