Jul. 25, 2008 - Friday S&T - Cool family facts

Posted in Our family

http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Canadagirl/
I learned some really neat family facts this week.  Several of us were married in a year that ends with an 8.

My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Dh and I celebrated our 20th anniversary this year.
My oldest brother and his wife celebrate 30 years next month.
My aunt and uncle celebrated their 40th anniversary earlier this year.

I am posting this entry a little early since some of you have been asking about my dd.  WE STILL DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER.

She is still very lethargic, though she hasn't slept at all since she woke up this morning.  Basically goes from bed to couch.  I am doing everything I can to help her so that she doesn't over-exert.  I thought once we were done with the broken arm issue that she'd be able to wash her hair on her own after that.  NOT!  She gets so dizzy and weak if she stands for any length of time, so I don't want her taking a shower and trying to do her hair by herself.

We are barely getting any school work done.  It takes the whole day to do math and language arts, even with skipping over much of the stuff she already knows.  (Thank God for the yearly testing we do – it helps me to “know” it is OK to skip some things because she did such an awesome job this year.)    My plan was to try to get 36 days of those two subjects done before school officially starts so that we would only need to do those subjects 4 days a week.  I may have to re-think that plan.    I'm looking ahead to when school does officially start.  If she is still struggling at that point (and I've heard that is very possible IF it is mono), we will just skip doing history and vocabulary until she is much better.

I hate playing the “waiting game” with the doctor’s office.   Our next appointment isn't until August 12.  They will only call us if any of the test results show something significant that requires more treatment.  So, I guess it is really a good thing if we don't hear anything from the doctor’s office.

The neighbor girl keeps asking, “Is R still sick?”  I told her today that R will be sick for a long, long time.  I have a feeling that she won't grasp that concept entirely since she is several years younger than dd.

I've been trying to figure out whether or not to finish teaching my Sunday school class.  There are only three more lessons to teach.  At that point, I am going to take a break.  I usually do that for the fall quarter to give me a chance to focus more on getting into a routine with school.  I did tell dd that if she wants me to stay home on Sunday, I will be more than happy to do so.  I know her dad will be here with her, but sometimes it just feels better to know that Mom is nearby.

I will continue to post updates as I can.  Since we are still waiting on phone calls from the doctor, my online time is severely limited.

Thanks for posting update on your dd. This may be redundant...have they checked her for anemia? My dd got anemia once after a long bout with the flu and a really bad cold. She also grew 4 inches in a short period of time. The doctor said her body could not keep up.
Praying for healing, restoration, and peace!
The key to keeping an idea file is to only do a small amount of times worth and treat it like your curriculum...access it often and label it well. Took me years to get to that point. I save money and time now. In the past I was a horrible stuffer! I am doing so much better now with discarding things and only collecting ideas I know I will use. ( no matter how cute and wonderful the ideas are!) I even clean out the computer ( favorites ) quarterly now. Still working on my word and excel files. Just so much to go through. Then there are the 23 boxes in the attic that house all four childrens finished school work to date......sigh. Its out of site so must be out of mind as well!

Yes, they did check for anemia, but I don't have the results of that test yet.

What a stressful thing that you're going through with your daughter. Too bad that you have to wait until the middle of August for another appointment. I prayed for your daughter.

I know God will help you work it all out with your schoolwork and everything. I know it's so often so difficult dealing with the Dr.'s offices, and it's so hard to wait. I pray you dd heals quickly and that they find out what it is. Not knowing is sometimes the hardest part.

Hi Stacy,

I'm so sorry to hear your dd's health issues. It just about does us mamas in when our babies just don't get better, doesn't it? I had mono at 16, and I just remember not being hardly able to lift my head off the pillow. It was a long recovery, for sure. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Have a peace-filled weekend~

Oh, dear! I'm sorry to hear about your DD. Being sick in the summer has got to be the worse time. And it's so scary seeing your child just lying around. But....this too shall pass...

Oh, I'm soo sorry to hear about your dd's poor health!!

Mono is nothing to mess with. At least the dr's haven't called with worse news. No news is good news, right?! I'll keep her, and the rest of the family, in my prayers!! You ALL will probably need it!

That is neat that all these big anniversaries are all on the number 8.

But I am very glad you put this as a S&T and I saw that need to pray for your dd.

I haven't been able to get around as much as I want and might have missed this. I sure hope this will be over SOON.

Sending you big blessings and ((HUGS))
In Him<><

I see someone mentioned it already, but I was thinking "anemia" too, when you were describing her condition. I hope you get the results quicker than August. Keep us updated.
