Nov. 9, 2009 - My #1 Hint
~~~ Working and Homeschooling ~~~
If I had to come up with only ONE hint for making working outside the home also work with homeschooling, it would be to get in the habit of making a menu plan. I do mine for a month because I have my schedule for the entire month. If you only know your schedule for a week or two weeks in advance, then plan it for that length of time. This has been the biggest help for me. Being able to come home and know in advance what I'm doing for supper is a HUGE relief. No more wondering, "What in the world am I going to make?" No temptations for stopping at McDonald's and paying a small fortune for unhealthy food that is going to make all of us feel sick. It also alleviates constantly running to the store to pick up something.
Menus are a must, even if we don't follow them to the letter. I always make one, but if something changes, I am flexible. Would you believe that I turned off the game the last 2 minutes. I could not stand it any longer. When I turned it back, they were shaking hands and I did not know who had won! Thankfully, I found out quickly. I don't like close games. I don't know how they keep pulling them off. Amazing. And I am not really a fan of football. I just like to see our city look good. :-)
You're so organized, and I'm sure that makes a huge difference in your life!
I'm still working on thinking ahead, but I know what we'll eat for most of the rest of the week. (Yippee!) We're blessed to have 3 full freezers as well as lots of pumpkins and squash, so we almost never have an emergency run to the store.
Blessings,
Annie Kate
Menu planning rocks! Thak you for the reminder of why we need to take the time to menu plan, especially during the holidays!
