May. 13, 2009 - Finding Favor with the King
I am reading a wonderful book right now on the story of Esther. It is called Finding Favor With the King by Tommy Tenney. I highly recommend this book! I have done several studies on Esther, but none like this one! It brings out things I've never heard before. I borrowed this book from someone at church, but I'm seriously thinking I should buy a copy for myself.
Speaking of finding favor, I went for my second interview on Tuesday. While she didn't tell me I had the job, she did say that she would likely be calling me on Wednesday morning to officially offer me the job.

Mar. 14, 2009 - Back Pain, Neck Pain, and Herniated Disc Information
I have struggled with back pain for years. While I had some time, I decided to research some information on back pain. I came across some very interesting information: http://www.rebuildyourback.com/back_pain_books.php
For those of you who have also struggled with back pain, you know that being pain-free is priceless. After researching this information, I have hope that perhaps I can be pain-free for the first time in over 20 years.

Oct. 24, 2008 - Friday Show & Tell -- Great books to read!
I am reading a couple of fantastic books right now! I just had to share them with you gals because they have been such insightful, refreshing books.
The first one is Lessons from a Venetian Vinedresser. I have always loved reading John 15 where it talks about Jesus being the vine. This book helps you to better understand the word-pictures Jesus was painting with His illustration of the vine. Very insightful book!
The other book is The Power of Femininity. I got this book for a quarter at the library's annual sale. I must say this is the best quarter I have ever spent! It is so rich and informative that I am highlighting things on every single page. Though I have read several books on the differences between men and women, this book is really eye-opening! She goes back to the Garden of Eden and sheds some insightful light on what really happened that day. I highly recommend this book. It really is a must-read! I'm seeing things about myself that I didn't realize, and now the Vinedresser can prune those things so that I can bear more fruit.
Normally, when I am done reading a book, I get rid of it because our home just isn't large enough to keep all of the books I read. However, I plan to keep both of these books because they are just fantastic! If you click on the pictures of the books, it will take you to a website where you can find the best deals on the books. ![]()

A side note here: I discovered yesterday evening that the ps are out today, so dd and I are taking the day off too. (Doing the happy dance here!)
It's been a very rough couple of weeks with hs'ing so BOTH of us could use the break.
I've been on a big decluttering and cleaning kick too, so if I still have any energy left tomorrow, perhaps I can tackle even more.
(Mary, I'll be posting next week about what I accomplished today.)

Society tugs on your daughter's heart to influence her beliefs about who she is and what she stands for. God is also tugging on your daughter's heart, beckoning her toward courageous womanhood! She needs courage to become all that He created her to be--physically, mentally, emotionally, and especially spiritually.

Jan. 31, 2008 - My current Bible study
I am studying Perplexing Proverbs. I love to study the book of Proverbs and have done MANY studies on that particular book. It just never gets old to me!
This book is in the format of the Beth Moore workbooks. Same size, five days of study for each unit. The only difference is that there is not a DVD required for this study. ![]()

Added note from 2-2-2008: I was studying the chapter on our speech last night. It was POWERFUL! Very good study, and MUCH to ponder!

Jan. 25, 2008 - A "MUST-HAVE" book!
This book was recommended by one of my dear online friends, who happens to live in Israel. It is simply WONDERFUL! (Thanks again, Jennifer, for sharing this wonderful book with me. It has really been a blessing to our family.)
It will give you recipes for making starter mixes for several things like brownies, muffins, cornbread, bean soup, granola, shake n bake mix, etc. It also has several mixes for meal starters. I haven't tried any of those because at the moment, my freezer is too full.
In the back of the book, there are several recipes for each starter mix. We have made the granola and the accompanying energy bars recipe a couple of times. (I use the energy when my sugar starts to drop too low.) They are DELICIOUS! Much better than the sweet-n-salty bars from Walmart.
For dd's sleepover last night, I made brownies. The girls said they were much better than a box mix.
I also made the shake-n-bake chicken recipe. DD said my chicken was better than the chicken strips from Chili's, and I thought those were delicious! ![]()
I modified that recipe a bit by removing the skin from the chicken, then covering it with mayonnaise before dipping in the mix. It gave it a crunchy texture, similar to still having the skin on it, yet w/o all of those extra calories.
I have made the cornbread, as well as the bean soup recipe. I have not been disappointed in any of the recipes I have tried.
Here is an idea of the money you will save by using the ideas in the book:
Brownie mix - Cost was $2.76 and makes 15 c. Since each recipe uses about 2-2/14 c. of the mix, you can get over 6 batches of brownies for the price of ONE box mix!
Cornbread - Cost was $1.26 (though I won't use the entire container of cornmeal at once.) Mix makes 10 c. and will makes 8 batches of cornbread for the cost of 4 boxes of boxed cornbread mix.
Muffin mix - Cost was $.87 and it makes 11 c. It will make 5 batches of muffins for MUCH less than the price of ONE boxed mix.
Pancake mix - Cost was .97 and will make 4 batches of pancakes (12 four-inch pancakes) or 3 batches of waffles (3 to 4 large waffles). That is less than 35 cents per batch!
Bean soup mix - Cost was $4.67 and it makes 12 c. It will give you 6 meals, which ends up being about .78 each. One bag of 15-bean soup mix is over $2.00. Granted, this recipe only uses 6 different beans, but at least it does give you something to compare.
Granola - Cost was around $6-$7.00, though I did not purchase the coconut or sesame seeds. Makes 20 c. of granola. 26 batches of gran muffins which ends up being .27 a batch. Or makes 6 batches of energy bars (roughly 20-25 bars, depending on how you cut them) for $1.17 each, or .06 per bar. The Walmart sweet-and-salty bars are 6 bars for $1.97, which is .33 a bar.
There are several Make a Mix books on Ebay right now.
