A Glimpse Into Our Homeschooling Life ...

About Me:

This is a place for me to write about what we are doing in our homeschooling. I may add more than just homeschooling stuff, but for the most part ..... this is a glimpse into our homeschooling life.

The Past Couple of Days
Well, it seems that I haven't updated this blog for a few days - let's see, on Friday we were in another town doing our Geography Project (I'll post some pictures later on).  This was absolutely fantastic - all of the kids there did such a wonderful job and you could tell that they had learned a lot.  At the end of everyone's presentations, all of the kids got certificates for participating in this event.  There was also some requests that we do something like this again in the Spring.

The other day I had to sit the kids down and have a chat with them about school.  We get up at 8:00 in the morning, the kids then have 1 hour to get breakfast, clean up from breakfast and get ready for the day - we have been having real issues with the kids because they were getting in the habit of getting up at 8:00 and then dragging blankets out to the living room so that they could veg out on the couch.  At around 9:00 they would drag themselves off the couch to get some breakfast and after they had eaten, they would get up from the table, leaving everything from their meal on the table.  Next they would head to the Toyroom, close the door and play with their toys until I came and got them to start school!  Now, I do realize that this was poor parenting on my part and we hopefully have the situation under control again.  Our plan of attack now is:
  • get up at 8:00 (basically when the alarm goes off, get up)
  • come out to the kitchen and get breakfast
  • eat breakfast and clean up the table from breakfast
  • whoever's day it is to shower, get that done.
  • school starts at 9:00.
The kids and I have discussed this schedule and they have been warned that if they can not get everything done that they need to do between 8 and 9, then we will be getting up at 7:00.  So, now they seem very motivated to do what needs to be done, lol.

What we did on Monday:
Bible:
Copy work continued in their Bible Notebooks from the Book of James.

Math:
One lesson in Saxon Math was completed.  Charlotte is now working on Multiplication and Joshua is working on Long Division - he has decided that even though Math is his favorite subject .... he really isn't fond of Long Division (I told him that's because it is a new skill that he is learning).

Language:
Both the kids completed two pages from their Total Reading workbooks.  We haven't worked on their Novel Studies in a while, so we should get cracking on those again.

What we did today:
Bible:
Today, instead of working on their copywork, I had the kids work on their Prayer Journals that they made in Sunday School.  They write down prayers in the little books that they made and then they bring them back to their Sunday School teacher when they are finished them.

Math:
Both kids worked on one lesson from Saxon Math.  I am very thankful that Saxon reviews each new concept in the subsequent lessons, Josh probably isn't liking this right now, but until he gets Long Division down pat ... he needs all the review he can get.

Language:
Two pages were done in their Total Reading workbooks.

Wow, you guys have been on holidays quite a long time (wink, wink).

Actually I was stopping by to see if your mid-year report was posted. How is going... writing the report?

Pam
