Well I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. We sure did. I haven't been blogging for a while and I thought I would show you why.
This is a patten from Knit Picks the convertable fingerless gloves |
I made these for DH. He oppted for a full thumb which I finished before my afternoon nap yesterday. |
I am also working on finishing some projects around the house
Current bathroom window cover. The people we ordered window coverings for almost two years ago never came through with coverings for several of our windows. |
This is what it should look like when completed. |
All most done. I need to trim the seams, steam the seams and then sew the last part closed |
This is the material for our downstairs sliders, family room window and library window. I will not be at a loss for projects this new year. ha ha |
I did complete my December socks for Sockmainia, it only took me one week and that was with schooling and several interuptions.
They are done!!! |

I was up until past midnight Christmas eve finishing them. DS2 woke around 1:30am for nursing and I was back up around 5:00 to put breakfast in the oven and start the coffee. DDs 3 and 4 played with these most of the day and were not very happy when it came time to clean up and have dinner. |
Lets see what else have I been working on.
I made up some spices for taco seasoning and fajita seasoning. These are a couple of our favoite dinners that my two oldest like to make so we mulitiplied our reciept by 20 to fill four spice jars each. The saches have a wonderful Christmas sent, I also made lavender bags for my wool things |
Ok something new for me. Here is some PUL fabric and hemp fleece to start making daipers and mamma cloths. I used cloth on my oldest(now 15) and loved them. The only problem was I was working then and no one would take her with cloth, not even the church nursery! so I went to disposible and didn't really think about now that I was a stay at home mom I could do this again. I have been looking into this for a good part of a year, inspired by Purityseekers. DH finally gave the go ahead this last month. More on mamma cloths below. I also found a soft leather shoe pattern that I want to try. |
This is a bear I knit while I was pregnat last year. DS2 loves it and sucks on it all the time |
Close up of the embroiderd eye he has sucked off. I used the pattern from Patternworks and the yarn is OH MY camel by Plymouth. It is very soft. |
Ahh and to relax on Christmas day I casted on my swatch for the Secret of the Stole II. I have wanted to learn how to knit a lovely lace stole and found this web site and thought..Why not ...the worst that can happen is it may look funny and I will need more practice the best, I would have a lovely lace stole.

I don't know how to block yet but then I believe I have a few months to figure that out because the stole shouldn't be done till at the earliest Easter.
Ok now for the Mama Cloths. Again I was inspired by Purityseekers. I was kinda hesitant...like how do you clean that? Kotex didn't come around until the 1920'sand then it was only affordable to the well to do. It wasn't until the 1970's that they were made affordable for all. My brian starts going...well what did they do before hand and what can I do to be more self sufficent. So I started looking around on the internet and I could not believe what I found. There are many many places you can go to buy mama cloths or pads already made or there are even patterns to make your own. I hear that once you try cloth you never want to go back to disposible. So I have some patterns now and I am gathering my supplies to make them. My DDs are not so sure but are willing to give it a go. To clean them you just set a pail with a lid beside your toilet with cold water in it and put the used ones in to soak. After your cycle just dump it in the washer and wash them in cold water with a hot rinse. Don't use fabric softener or it will set the stains. The key is to soak them. Also drying them out in the sun helps. Well I will let you know if I like them once I get going. I want to buy a snap press first to make things easier. You can also put velcro in old underwear to attach them. I wll post pictures once I have some made. |
