~ My oven ~

Well, I'm not quite sure how it happened, but it's early afternoon and I have time to write a blog entry.    Lately I haven't had time until the evening, but hey, I'm not going to give up this time if it's available.

I knew earlier this morning that I wanted to blog about, my stove/oven.    Yes, I know, it sounds goofy, but hey you should know by now how goofy I am.  When we moved into our new house I fell in love with the layout of our kitchen, but the stove and fridge where not what  I would have picked out if I had a choice.  Please know, I'm not complaining, and I'm thoroughly blessed that we didn't have to purchase a stove or fridge.  I'm just stating that I would have done it a bit different.  The stove is only a year or so old, which right there is a blessing.  But there were a couple of things that were different.  It's electric, and I prefer gas.  It has only one large burner, the rest are smaller, but I've never had a problem with it.  It doesn't have a window for the oven.  Like I said, just little things that don't really matter but things you notice as you start working with it.  But I'm here to say, I now like my stove/oven so very, very much.  I make a wheat bran with raisins muffins for us.  The kids and I eat one almost every day, so we go through them pretty quick.  Years ago I started doubling the batch so I was making 2 dozen at a time, obviously with two muffin pans.  And I don't want to be in the kitchen long, so I bake both muffin pans at the same time.  In our old house, even with a brand new stove/oven both pans would not fit on one shelf.  So I had to layer them, and half way through the cooking time, move them around, otherwise the sides closest to the oven side would burn.  Not a big issue, and I did it quite easily for years.  Well, I had gotten out of the habit of making the muffins every week, and truly haven't made any in at least 4 or 5 months.  So today I decided to make the muffins.  It was the first time making them in our new house.  And, yes, I'm sure you have figured it out by now, both muffin pans fit in the oven on the same shelf and didn't burn!!!    I know it may seem like it's not a big deal, but I'm doing the happy dance.  I should have gotten a picture of them in the oven, but I didn't, and we've already started eating them.    It was just so nice to put them in the oven, turn on the timer, and not worry about them until they were done.  And now that I have tasted them again, I do think I'll try to make them more often.  I know the kids really want me to.  I would post the recipe, but I got it off of a wheat bran box, and I don't remember where, so I don't want to break any copyright laws.  But if you want it, just let me know, and I can either PM or email it to you, I think that would be o.k.  It's just such a blessing, almost 3 months after moving in here, that the Lord is still showing me different little blessings He has for me.  Thank you Lord.

Well, my break time is almost over, and it's back to afternoon lessons.  I hope you have a good rest of the day.

I think if you gave credit to the wheat bran box, it would be OK to post it, don't you think? Or just add something original or change the number of ingredients, etc., and then it's your own, right?
It's little things that matter, like an oven that fits 4 large loaf pans at once for bread (on the same shelf) and the 2 muffin tins (24 muffins!) at one time. I guess I never really appreciated what some folks must go through. Mine have always fit. Funny, huh, the things we take for granted!

And thanks for the questions! Yes, think of more, and I"ll see how many I can work in.
I have Sarah's envelope addressed (she won that count the horses contest, remember?) so I can mail her book 3 as soon as I get them. :-)

No recipe! I could use a good muffin recipe to entice Grace to eat more fiber. And I am very happy that you love your oven. I used to have a really cool gas oven at my old house. This one is electric and only wide enough for one pan. Oh, well, it works and I am thankful for that.

I am with you on this it's so nice to have a large oven. My fil has a very small oven, so when we all get together for Thanksgiving is a huge headache trying to figure out the times and how long to cook everything.
I am so glad I have always had a large oven. The stove top is another thing, don't know about three small burners.
((((hugs))))

January 11, 2008 - The little things

It is definitely the little things in life that make me happy too. I think it is very good for us to be thankful for all the little things, like a wide enough oven :o) It will keep us in the right frame of mind and give us a good attitude.

If it's a strait recipe, it's not copyrighted. I've been looking up copyright laws recently. What is copyrighted is entire books of recipes and if they add any flair to the wording (or pictures taken), but the strait list of ingredients and how to put them together is not copyrighted. :) I'm glad you like your oven. I hate mine, but at least I have one. Mine is a wall unit which I like, but it's so small about half the cookie sheets don't fit in it. One year Hubby was given a turkey for Thanksgiving from his work and we literally had to stuff the thing into the oven. It was pathetic. The good thing is as long as we have this oven, I won't be expected to host Thanksgiving at my house! lol! :)
