~ Our weekend ~

Posted in Family
We've had a good weekend, though we are all tired now.

Friday was our first day of spring break, and it was a good, relaxing day.  After Paul got home that night and we had a quick dinner, we had to run out and get lots of packing boxes for my sister.  We dropped those off at home, then went back out and went grocery shopping.  We couldn't fit both the boxes and food in the car at the same time.  When we moved out of our old house, our niece (my sister's daughter) moved in and started renting it from my parents.  My sister's house was 'next door', meaning it was about 2 acres away.  It was a bigger house that needs lots of things fixed and worked on and with her back, she's not able to do as much of it.  So she has decided to sell it, and she's moved in with her daughter, in our old house.  Her son, when he's in town, has helped move some of the furniture, and she needed the boxes so she could start packing up the house.  That was the reason we went box shopping for her.

On Saturday we headed out around 10:30am to go visit my family out where we use to live.  We haven't been back in about 5 months.  It was good to be back.  It's still as beautiful there as ever, of course they still have lots of snow.  It was great to see my parents, sister and niece.  My parents made a great spaghetti lunch for us, and the family fellowship during lunch was great.

We then went and visited some friends who had moved back to our town after being gone for a year or so.  But they moved back after we had left, so we haven't seen them in a few years.  It was great visiting with them again.  After our visit we had to help my sister move a washer, dryer and big grill.  So our friend offered to help, thankfully, otherwise my 84 yo father would have had to help Paul.  Not really what we wanted.  My sister was putting her washer and dryer in storage in the 'new' house' garage, and our friends didn't have a washer and dryer yet.  So my sister said they could use them for a month or so until they could get their own.  That was such a blessing for our friends.  My sister knows our friends, because the wife is a dispatcher too, so they work together.  So there was a quick change of plans, and we had to go back to their house and drop on the washer and dryer.

After that, we said goodbye to our friends and went to our old house and unloaded her grill.  We looked around our old house, and it was bittersweet.  Obviously we all decorate, clean and keep house differently then each other, and it was a little sad to see the differences at the house.  But they do have it set up nicely, just different now.

Half way through all of this moving my niece took our kids back to my parents house to play in their basement.  My parents have an unfinished basement with a pool table down there.  They like to scooter, roller blade and playing pool down there.  The kids had a great time.  After we were done with everything, we headed back to my parents.  We had planned to head home around 4:00pm, but it was already almost 4:00pm, so we decided to stay later.  We had dinner, and more time of just hanging out with each other.  Around 7:00pm we knew we had to go.  It's about an hour to hour and a half drive home.  So we packed up our things, said goodbye to everyone and headed home.

I was surprised how emotional I was, and I cried a little bit.  Truly, non of us miss being out there, though we do miss the beautiful views.  I think it was just the emotions of the first visit, seeing how the house had changed, and knowing we definitely don't live there anymore.  We got home in time for the kids to change and go to bed early because of our plans today.

Our church was having an awesome Easter service at the local auditorium.  It's a big event, and they have two services 9:00am and 11:30am.  We decided to go to the 9:00am, and we were told to get there early, because it packs up quick.  So we had to be out the door no later than 8:00am.    I'm sure most of you can relate to the fact that the kids and I are not use to getting up that early to be ready and out the door by 8:00am.  So it was early to bed, only to have me wake up around 2:00am feeling sick to my stomach.  .  I think it was just all the spicy lunch/dinner we had.  I didn't want to get sick, I really wanted to go today.  So I prayed, tried to calm down a bit, and fell back to sleep.  Thankfully I woke up today feeling better, and decided to go.

We got there about 10 min. before the place packed up.  We saw lots of our friends and it was a great service.  They had a guest singer, who was just so wonderful.  And our pastor taught such a great sermon.  It truly was a beautiful time, and we are so blessed we got to go.

Now we are home, and we've pretty much crashed.  We've already taken a nap today, and I feel like I could still go back to sleep.  Paul's cold feels like it's come back, and my stomach is feeling blah again.  But I wouldn't have changed this weekend for anything.  It was a great time, we were blessed all around.  And though it was great to go back 'home' for a visit, it has truly solidified that this is now our home.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. I'm glad you had the chance to visit family. We've been longing to have family closer--as we always do around the holidays. It is especially hard for me when Jim is away. :)
I hope you enjoy your Spring break.

Your tears were justified on your return from your old home. Change is hard. I am glad to read that your new church feels like home to you. (-:

I know what you mean about seeing your old house decorated and lived in differently. We are leasing our old house and it was really weird the first time I went into it after they had moved in.

I am glad you had a nice weekend. Get some rest :o)

JoAnn, I'm so glad you had such a blessed weekend, even if there were some bittersweet moments, also.
Praying you & Paul are feeling better! We've had some stomach issues going on here, too. Holly
