Sarah and I had a great time shopping together. We found everything right away, and then went out for some ice cream cones afterward. It was such a fun time.
We decided to give the bike to Paulie tonight. It sort of fit in our closet, but we really wanted him to start learning how to ride a bike soon. He's never had his own bike, so he's never known how to ride one. He was so excited when he came out of his room and saw his new bike. Of course we all went outside right away and dad started showing him how to ride a bike.
We looked for the longest time in Wal-Mart, with Paulie, as to the right height bike to get him a few weeks ago. The 18" was way to small, 24" seemed like it might work, but only his toes touched the ground and that made Paulie nervous. So we settled on a 20" bike, but now that we have it home, it seems a bit small for him. Of course we didn't know that until he road it outside so no returning it. His knees tend to come up a little high, but truly I don't think he would have felt safe on a 24", there was no in between the 20" and the 24". I'm sure he will get good use out of this bike. Maybe we'll have to get him another one sometime this summer, maybe. But I think it's best to have him on a bike he feels safe on, can easily touch the ground with his feet and teaches him both a peddle brake and hand brake. Am I just trying to justify it in my mind? Maybe. It's hard to go out and buy something brand new and think it might be the wrong size. I can't really think about it. I have to trust this is going to work and that my baby boy will learn how to ride his bike.
Here are some pictures of him tonight on his new bike. Paul is such a good teacher and toward the end, he was actually taking his hands off and Paulie was riding all by himself. I was such a proud mama behind the camera. Some of the pictures are blurry, but I think you can see it all.
Wahoo !!!! Go Paulie !!! Congrats Paulie on your new bike !!!!
Thanks for sharing the pics and the story behind them. I use to ride for HOURS around the block ( which was 4 blocks in a square) . I never got bored of riding my bike. I pray the same for Paulie.
Sending you blessings and ((hugs)) my SSiC
