A Homemade Christmas - Knitted Wristlets!

A Homemade Christmas at SimplyVintagegirl.com

Well, I've been noticing that all of the cool kids have been doing this Homemade Christmas meme, so I figured that I would too, especially since I came up with a pretty cool pattern yesterday. Okay, so it's not all that cool, but it's something.

You see, I've been working on figuring out what I'm giving everyone for Christmas, and I kind of came to a blank when I was trying to figure out what to make for our friends' little boys, who are eight and six. And what did I come up with? Wristlets!

This is me wearing the wristlets, but I have tiny wrists, so they should hopefully fit the kids I made them for...

I'm not really sure what the point of wristlets are, or if they even have one at all, but all I care is that little kids seem to love them, and it only took me a half hour or so to make these!

So, I figured that I would be really nice and all, and share the pattern with you.

What you'll need:

US size 5 (3.5 mm) knitting needles

Really any sort of yarn works for this project, and you won't need much of it. If you have some scraps left over from another project, this would be a great opportunity to use them!
For this pair, I used cheap-o acrylic Red Heart camo yarn, pictured above.

And, for finishing off, a pair of scissors and a yarn needle.

Note: The numbers in parentheses are for women's and men's sized wristlets, respectively. The kids/smallish-wristed people size is the number that's not in parentheses. Does that make sense? Good.

Instructions:

  • Cast on 30 (34, 38) stitches.
  • Row 1: Knit 2, Purl 2. Continue to the end of the row.
  • Row 2: Purl 2, Knit 2. Continue to the end of the row.
  • Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the wristlet is about 1.5" long (about 4 centimeters), or desired length.
  • Cast off, continuing the K1, P2 pattern. Leave a 10" tail.

Finishing:

  • Fold the wrislet in half (so that it's square-ish), and sew the edges together, using the tail.
  • Weave in loose ends, turn the wristlet inside-out, and there you have it!

The finished project:

So, that's my homemade Christmas gift for this week!

Craftily yours,

Hey, could you PM me and tell me how to put the test boxes on an entry? Like the one that you put the code for your link in? I'd really like to do that on my blog and I'll give you credit for showing me how to.
God Bless,
Taylor

Wow, you have a great camera!

I know, it's weird for me to notice, and it's kind of an off-topic comment.

But I love the way it takes pictures!

Mine's cheesy, but I hope to get a new one soon.

Ahhh. Mine is really terrible, mine's all fuzzy if I get that close to something.

But it works, I'm asking for a good camera for Christmas for me to you know, take pictures with, because being a photographer is one of my back-up plans.
