Yadkin Valley R.R

Yesterday evening my brother and I were going to get a webkinz at the mall. On our way we came to a railroad crossing. The railroad crossing bars were down. This means to stop, a train is coming. We got to watch the Yadkin Valley Train. It backed up across the tracks to pick up some rail cars. When it connected there was a loud boom. Once it was connected the train went forward a little ways, then went in reverse. It was exciting to watch.

When I was younger my family went to Tweetsie Railroad in Boone, NC. I got to ride the train. I was young, so it was scary. As you ride the train you watch cowboys and indians fight.

My mom has been researching our family tree. She discovered  that my dads great grandfather worked as a brake man for the railroad.

This is the train depot we think he worked at in Virginia

Its All About Plays

Today we read a play adapted by Adele Thane called The Baker's Neighbor. It was really fun to read. It had 9 characters:

Manuel Gonzale, a baker

Pablo Perez, his neighbor

Carlos, a boy

Romona, Inez, Isabel { Carlos's sisters

Judge

Three women

Villagers

My brother read Manuel, Pablo and Carlos. Mom read the three sisters Romona, Inez and Isabel. I read the Judge, the three woman and the villagers.

My family and I went to see a play. It was The Wizard Of Oz  by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics of the MGM motion picture score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. Presented by The Surry Arts Council. It was preformed in the Andy Griffith Playhouse on March 6-9, 2008.

It was very exciting to watch. My mothers Aunt Glenda bought us tickets for the play becouse she knew it is moms favorite movie. During intermission we met a Hollywood star. She played Thelma Lou (Betty Lynn) on the Andy Griffith Show. Betty Lynn now lives in Mount Airy, NC. Mount Airy is Andy Griffith's home town.

Being Patience

In My Devotoion we read about being patient.  I have some  patience, but not a lot . I think people sould work on their patience. The Bible verses for this devotional was Psalm 25:4-5.

4. Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.

5. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art thy God of my salvation; on the do I wait all day.

I will look back at these verses and practice my patience.

Rubber Wishbone

Rubber Chicken Bone

What You Need

  • Uncooked chicken bone or wishbone
  • Clean, empty glass jar with lid
  • White vinegar

What to Do
Clean the bone thoroughly and let dry overnight. Place the bone in the jar and add enough vinegar to cover the bone. Secure the lid and let the jar stand undisturbed for seven days.

What Happens
The bone becomes soft and rubbery. It can be twisted, and, in some cases, tied in a knot.

Why It Works
The vinegar (acetic acid) dissolves the calcium from the bone, leaving it soft and bendable.

The Sweet Thing About Bees

Today we read a story called From Bees to Honey by Sylvia A. Johnson. It was really interesting. One of our boys in youth is a beekeeper. I think it would be really scary to take care of bees. We went online to research about beekeeping.
