Jul. 12, 2007 - It's time to gripe again
Posted in Just life

It's that time of year when our "school tax" comes due.  And since we own four rental properties in addition to our house, we pay roughly $8000 to three different school districts.  And what do we get for this money?  Absolutely nothing.

Now what do you think would happen if only the people who use the public schools had to pay that tax?  First off, it would jump from $2000 a family to $10000 or more.  And then people would realize, "No way am I getting my money's worth out of this school!" and they'd either go with private school, which would be cheaper, or homeschool.  How long do you think it would be before the public schools would be out of business?

Just a thought.

I have a neighbor that complains about the school tax all the time. Finally, I couldn't hold it in any more! I asked her how she thought I felt! Here, my kids don't step foot inside a school, and I have to still pay more then she does! They go by what the home/property is worth here. I haven't heard one complaint since then! To make this yearly "fun" even more happy- we mistakenly got billed twice this year! I have placed two calls to the "tax collector" and apparently, this poor woman's fingers must all be broken- becuase I am still waiting (5 days later) for a returned call! Oh, it's such a happy time of year! Kelly

Homeschooling four boys is always a challenge! This is our sixth year and I still haven't figured it out.
