I love the homeschool community

I was just blessed with a whole set of history pockets.  The kids are studying Ancient Greece to the Middle Ages at the Tutorial.  I am thinking of keeping them home full time next year and started researching American History curriculum.  I really want to use the Peter Marshall books and I was having a hard time finding one that used it.  So I decided to put my hubby's extremely expensive education to use.  Of course his advice was "Do whatever you want"....  Anyway, I found a program called History Odyssey and it used history pockets.  That sparked my interest. But it didn't use the Peter Marshall books.  Then I found another one.. AND IT WAS FREE!!!!  I love free.  Anyway, it didn't use the PM books BUT it was laid out in such a way you can really use any book that you want.  So I am putting it together.  Now to find a good science program that I can use along with it.

Still with me here?  I put a message out to my homeschool groups and this lady offered me her set.  I wanted to start with the kids this year so I was going to try out just Ancient Greece.  Well, she gave me her Greece book, Egypt and all the American ones!!  I am thrilled!!  I don't know if I will do the actual pocket or use it in lapbooking, which is like scrapbooking, which my kids love to do.

Just wanted to share my joy!!!!

Dyslexia

I have had few issues with my daughter.  I cannot quite explain her problem.  But I will try... First off she is 6 just finished Kindergarten.

Take a look at this problem    _____56  The instructions say "write the number that comes before.  She will write the number that comes after.  She has a number line to look at but for some reason she just doesn't get it.  Then let's say she has a few addtion problems.  Then she has subtraction problems..  She will continue doing the addition even though I tell her that we are doing subtraction and I show her what to do on the number line.  Or after the  "what number comes before" problem, if she has addition, she will add but only put the number that comes right after.  Like if it is 56+5= she will put 57.

There are many other issues with just the way she communicates and talks, but I feel it would take up so much room... Maybe in another post

Anyway, today I picked her up from her class in church and she wrote her name backwards.  Sometimes a letter would be reversed, but this time her whole name was backwards.  I just found that a bit odd.  So now hubby and I are a bit concerned.  He says dyslexia.  So if you have any ideas to help, I would appreciate it.

First Homeschool entry

So I have another blog, but I decided to start one here for just homeschooling.  I signed up a year or so ago, but I don't remember by username...

Here is a bit about me.  I have 3 children.  My husband,J, and I are both educators, he worked for the past 15 years in public school and is moving into the private school sector this coming school year.  It is a big change for us but we are excited.  He finished up his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction and we have great discussions.. I love having him as our principal....

I have been educating our children since the day we got them.. We have 2 boys A is 9, Z is 7 and a girl L who is 6.

We started organizing our dining room.  I am a quilter and scrapbooker too.  This room houses our homeschool stuff and all my hobby things.  Any ideas would be great.  Between the hubby and I we have tons of books and tons of bookcases!!LOL

Well that is about all for this entry... Thanks for reading...
