Decision Making and Health
I can fairly certainly say that I DO not want to send ANY of my children to ps next year not even for OT or Reading help.
I am feeling scared about returning to something that SO overwhelmed me in the past.
Friday is the last day of ps and we will get back to homeschooling next Monday. I am "cheating" for a little while... I bought Summer Bridge workbooks. They will do two pages a day in those, read 15 (Hannah and Noah), 20 (Ian) or 30 (Jordan and Kaitlyn) minutes a day MINIMUM.
I have a lapbook project planned out for us to do together and am fine if it takes the whole summer to finish it.
I also would like them to do Composition at least once a week (Kaitlyn and Jordan can blog theirs and I might let Ian do the same.)
I bought Mavis Beacon's typing tutor for kids that they can play with and we also have a few other educational computer games like ClueFinders. I have heard that Nancy Drew is a lot of fun too.
Maybe we can throw some flashcard drills into the mix as well and of course we will continue with our daily devotions and Brain Gym.
I might sign them up for swim or I might just take them to the lake... it is right across the street! Literally!!!! We can't actually see it from our house b/c the other houses block the view, but it is there and the little beach is a 10 minute walk from our back door.
I am hoping to cover the cushions on the new bench in the school room before Monday! I am not sure if I really know how to do that, but I am going to try!
PLUS... now that dance is over (except that Hannah has dance photos tomorrow) we will have a less hectic schedule for awhile and can save up some more money for our trip to Oklahoma City in October. Russ' reversal surgery is fully paid for now... and we just have to pay for the air fare and all travel expenses. We will fly to Tulsa Oct. 2nd and his surgery is scheduled for 9AM October 3rd. He will recuperate that rest of the evening of that day and all the next day and we will fly home on either the evening of the 5th or the early morning of the 6th.
The girls will stay at one friend's house, two of the boys at another place and one boy at another place. I will miss them. I have never been away from them for that long! I know they will be fine though.
I am still having some health struggles.... I still cannot take off this weight and I am still having some hypoglycemic issues including occasional mild depression. It bothers me that I have not lost any weight especially in the light of the fact that I hope to be pregnant next year! And I really feel that my hypoglycemia might even completely go away if I could get back to a better weight.
Please pray for me! I am doing well, but there are still so many things swirling around undone! I need a stinkin' butterfly net! Christi, do you have one to spare... the kind that catches emotions and unresolved situations? :)
I hope to post some pictures either this week or next week. I have some cute ones back stage at recital.
Happy June to all of you!

...why do you need to fly to Tulsa for his surgery? (Just curious... my mother grew up in that area.)
Thanks for leaving a comment about praying for the hurricane victims... how soon we forget about tragedies!
It was thru *your* blog (your list of friends' recent posts) that I found out about the 2,996 tribute for victims of 9/11.
Wish I could help with the public school/homeschool "struggle." I'm all for homeschooling!!!! However, I don't want to be one of "those" who say every single child should be exclusively-homeschooled. God may have other plans.
Regarding mild depression... I know how that is. (Although, I'm not sure if my depression would be categorized as "mild.")
Hang in there!

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Phllipians 4:13
If God is calling you to homeschool, He will give you what you need to accomplish it. Maybe you don't feel up to the task, but that's OK. He is.
Praying for you,
Erin

I'm so excited for you about the reversal! And completely sympathizing with you about the weight and the hypoglycemic issues...I've got them too. Not fun. (I type this while sitting here in front of the computer drinking a coke. Do you think maybe that has something to do with it? LOL)

Praying that you are feeling well soon!
It sounds like you have some wonderful summer activities planned. By the way, Marissa loves Nancy Drew games. She spends her own allowance on new games instead of buying clothes. She is 14 and loves clothes, so I figure when she passes on a new outfit in order to get a game ~ it is LOVE!!

Thanks for stopping by and voicing your thoughts on the newborn screening question. I have heard a lot of cons about vaccines (though after my kids had had them and I was surprised at some of the things I have sense learned. I still think they are the best way to go considering the diseases that used to kill and cripple children, but I can also see reason for a lot of concern.
As to your question on your own blog about having some kids in ps and some at home. I don't know you or your situation well enough to give good advice, but I would say, that you need to do what you feel is best. I have friends whose families are split in that way and it works fine. I have another friend who pulled one son out this past year and is now taking the other two out for next year. Each family is different and only you truly know what your situation is and what your children's needs are and what your capabilities are!
As I was reading all you plan to do this summer, I was overwhelmed. I often read the things people are doing with their children and wonder if I am doing enough. AGGGHHH!!!

Meant to say, I too struggle with the hypoglycemia and the weight loss and the depression (it all goes together). Right now I want to lose 20 lbs by the end of July for my 40th birthday, but I just am not motivated enough to stick with it. I'll be praying for you and would appreciate prayers in return. God bless!

I hope you find what you are looking for, for your children's schooling!!! I know I have been truly blessed by my mom and dad HSing me!!!! What better way to train your children up in the Lord when they are right beside you as you walk with them and talk with them!!! I did a post about being HS and how it has affected me... I enjoy reading your daughter's blog!!! and yours!
We are going to be doing "School" during the summertime. We are planting our huge, 3 plt, 72' by 20' garden and we are almost done!!!! This is considered schooling since it will prepare us for living and providing for our families. As I am trying/training to be a Proverbs 31 woman I am learning that the best thing for my children (In the future, of course) will be HS!
May God's will be done in your life as He guides you!!!
Thanky ou for your comment and I did find LOTR chess set on Ebay!!!! I should be posting pictures soon!
Sincerely,
