This was a great event that was held by the Kindergarten program last month.
Families made a reservation for a 20 minute time slot that evening. When they arrived with their children they were seated by the teacher who acted as hostess. Then, the Kindergartener went to the "kitchen", donned an apron and came back with a menu that
listed several books they felt they had really mastered.
Then, the family would select a "menu item" and the child would go to the kitchen and bring the order back and serve it on a plate!
After they read all of the selections on the menu they were able to serve cookies and punch or coffee to their guests for dessert.
The funny thing is that Hannah insisted on wearing this red and white checked dress so she would match the table cloths!
This really surprised me b/c Hannah hates this dress. I made it for her two years ago and she really does not like to wear it b/c the first time she wore it someone told her she looked like "Raggedy Ann" (it has matching pantaloons!) and she didn't know who "Raggedy Ann" is so she just thought the dress made her look RAGGEDY! LOL!
This was the event for the Kindergarteners that evening. The whole evening was called "Celebration of Learning" and all the other grades had tables set up in the gym with samples of their work.
Ian's class had made ceramic fish and had done several projects about the life-cycle of the salmon. I accidentally deleted the pictures of the table from my camera, but here is a great one of Ian from that night:
Noah's class had samples of poetry and diorama's they had made, as well as artwork hanging on the wall behind their table. Here is Noah holding a scorpion from his diorama:
Jordan's former teacher (He was in the class from September until the beginning of February) had posted some of his work too. She and I had a good conversation that evening. She seems to agree that homeschool is working much better for Jordan.
Ian's teacher is sad that we are not sending him back also, and the school psychologist and the principal have put in their bid for us to stay, but the other teacher's did not really voice any disapproval.
It was (not counting pre-school for the two oldest children) their first and probably their last experience with public school.
