See JenIg's Blog Entry Today...
First go read JenIg's entry. It's okay. I'll wait right here until you get back... NO, NO, don't read on until you have read what she wrote first.
Okay. Did you read it... ALL...
If not, go back and really read it! I mean it! LOL!
Okay... NOW... if you really read it you can read my comment to her:
Be honest. Don't read on unless you read what SHE wrote first, okay?
Okay. Here goes.

I agree with you totally. As a matter of fact, I am right there with you in your thinking process... as a matter of fact, most of what we think of as "Christian" about Christmas is ACTUALLY pagan... the tree, the decorations, the gift giving, even the DATE which is completely inaccurate (Jesus was most likely born in the fall during the Feast of Tabernacles)... besides which Dec. 25th was traditionally the birthday of several false gods in pagan traditions such as Nimrod, Tammuz and others.
Constantine placed the celebration of the birth of Christ on Dec. 25th to coincide with the pagan's already established holidays... just like he did with mixing Easter and Passover/Communion and several other so-called "Christian holidays." Constantine's goal was not to prostelytize the pagan, but to make Chrisitanity more palatable to the pagan and more comfortable.
I have said on my blog before it is almost as if your spouse had an affair and afterwards he refused to acknowlege YOUR birthday anymore. From now on he insists on celebrating the birthday of his mistress b/c it is more fun and convenient and he has happy memories from that time in his life. He SAYS it is your birthday, but everyone parties and gives gifts to each other and NOT to you and no one is even sure when YOUR actual birthdate is anymore b/c they all love celebrating MISTRESS DAY instead!
YUK!
Besides, God never commanded us to celebrate His birth, but He did give us Passover and Communion as a lasting ordinance.
Now, with that said, we do celebrate Christmas at our house, but we celebrate the life, love, birth, death, resurrection and saving grace of God through Jesus all year long. We do some decorating and baking and gift giving, but we are very careful about WHAT we do, HOW we do it and WHY we are doing it!
What DO YOU ALL think?????????

yep, I agree with you. We had a tree for the first time in 13 years last year and it was okay, but it was just so.....unnecessary to me. It's just not a big deal. So, this year, the tree is out. (one hit wonder)
I love to read how passionate folks get about this holiday. It shows that we ALL in our different ways are searching to serve how He wants us to. Since The Holy Spirit speaks to us all in different ways and times, it cool to see people grow and learn how He wants them to live.
My two best friends both do trees, and they are very devout in their faith, but that's also their business and I don't lecture on what He's told US. Since that would be pointless!
Good post.

I liked your comment on my blog that, "while life is not about MY feeling BETTER...."
It was cute!
The only thing I can add to this is a part of what I stated in my response to Jen's post: "I agree with the sentiment of what Jen said, but I have a hard time celebrating something Christianized from pagan worship, even if it is accepted by most. Kinda like halloween...." from
Christmas - originally celebrated by the pagans.
There was a comment after mine on Jen's blog that refuted pagan origins, but, considering we have an example of what the church should look like from those who knew Jesus (the NT Church), and they didn't celebrate His birth, I find it hard to believe.
Many blessings, my friend!

I totally agree w/ you on HOW you celebrate Christmas. Very smart as usual!!
Thanks for the gift suggestion, that helps a lot!
You mentioned the songs I wrote as a kid. I remember I used to drive you crazy singing ridiculous stuff just to be a brat!
On the "Worthy" poem. I didn’t include you in it b/c you never made me feel less than. Of course that poem was written a long time ago & I have since healed from those issues.
Thanks for all your comments on my long post. I just needed to rant; it wasn't really aimed at anyone, just therapeutic for me to sort things out in my own head. Thanks for your honest words, you proved my point (since we think alike!) about us not knowing it all until we get to heaven. The whole married/single thing I think we have most of the same ideas, so no I wasn’t remotely offended my anything you wrote. Hopefully you weren’t either! Thanks for sharing your wisdom w/ me!

Dec. 5, 2006 - I think...

WOW..
Lots of confusion out there... Satan must be THRILLED....because confusion does not come from God. So I really have had a hard time getting off this fact to move on.... sad but true.
Thanks for the other links... very interesting...
We are still praying and seeking His wisdom.
I must say also the other thing that REALLY REALLY bothers me is Jay from Clevland's post... he is probably right...but most of us are so 'mis informed' we just take whatever we read/hear and assume that it is FACT.... to find the REAL facts takes time and digging. Something that most of us "public schooled" adults do not take enough time to do (myself DEFINITLY). That is really weighing heavily on my mind!!!
Thanks again for the links!!

I disagree. But I think if you don't want to have the tree then don't. I think that the mistress analogy isn't great, for one thing Jesus doesn't insist on us remembering his birthday.
Do you wear pants? Did you know that women wearing pants has a feminist origin? Christian women today don't wear pants because they want to "wear the pants" of the workforce, family, world... But because they are comfortable, warm, stylish, and at times more modest and appropriate than wearing a dress, etc.... And Christ is interested in our hearts.... So frankly I don't really think that it matters, in our culture it would be coool if we as Christians could unite better and make an impact on the culture. Is Christmas a witnessing opportunity? I know that people like Billy Graham have used it effectively (The Incarnation) as a witnessing tool in calling people to Christ.
And Paul said he could become all things to all men to witness Christ to them.
Some of my thoughts. I consider you a cyber friend, so I certainly hope that you won't take what I have said and think I am condemnatory of you, or think that you aren't witnessing, etc...
Blessings,

I don't really like this holiday anyhow. That sounds negative but that is just how I feel. I don't like the pagan orgins. We don't have a tree. I think it is weird to cut down a tree and drag it in the house. Just thinking about that makes my brain hurt.....cut...down...tree.....drag in house....make mess......drag out again....oh, ya, don't forget to decorate it.
I think I am even more annoyed when people look at me like I'm stupid for not liking Christmas.
Sorry for being so negative.
