Melting Away!

I finally got my camera program working and was able to upload the past few weeks worth of photos!  So I thought I'd start with photos from our last SNOW DAY.  (They are few and far between here in this part of Washington!)  The children (and I) were thrilled to have snow to do a few projects for our SNOW lapbooks!

This was last month, by the way!

We had frozen several sheets of black paper in hopes of just such a day!

Next, Ian gathered a big 4+ cups of fresh snow!

Then, we placed our snow beneath the clock and took photos every half hour or so.

So we learned that snow is about 25% water and about 75 % AIR!  I will make copies of these photos to put into their lapbooks!

As usual your kids are so cute. What clever snow day projects. Living in the Midwest, I generally treat the first snow day as if I were in mourning. We snuggle in blankets, read and emotionally prepare for a long winter.

I did your "snow melting" project once ~ sort of. An elderly patient and I filled a 30 cc medicine cup up with ice chips and watched it melt. His fluid was being restricted and he loved chewing on ice chips. He insisted that I was cheating him out of his water allotment by counting a medicine cup of ice chips as 30 cc. He was write, when it melted it was only about 20 cc.

Your snow melting project was AWESOME. I am so jealous that I didn't think of it first. Loved it. I bet your kids really did as well!

What a great project! I will keep that in mind for the next time it snows. Although it felt like spring here yesterday I know winter is not over. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Great projects! It looks fun and educational! You have great looking children too! I must admit it seems funny to see people out in the snow without coats on though! Brrrrr! I'm wimpy, I know.

Great project! We have not had one snow day all year. It never occurs to me to do a project when it snows. We're too busy filching the snow from our neighbors' lawns to gather up enough for a snowman. Then when it melts we have a big pile of pine straw to mark its "grave".

My name is Christina. I am 38 years old and have been happily married to my best friend, Russ for over 18 years! My username is quietcajun, but I am neither quiet, nor cajun! The nickname is based on my children's initials! The first four children are: Kaitlyn (16), Jordan (14 next month), Ian (12.5), and Noah (10 next month)... put their first intials together and you get KJIN (cajun). Sarah Hope is one of our babies in Heaven and Hannah (8 in September) is my youngest (so far). Put S and H together and you get SH as in SHHHH... QUIET. Get it? Thus, quietcajun! We are in our 12th year of homeschooling. We have tried public school, but we soon realized how important it is that they be HOME at all costs. Now we are back to having them all home again! It's not always easy, but it is for the BEST! Two of our children have Asperger's Syndrome. That is an adventure in itself. We are still learning! This blog is a place for me to sort out the daily joys and challenges of life as a mother and wife as I strive to love and know God more and bring GLORY to HIM in EVERY part of my LIFE!!!!
