Here's our current schedule:
We do our unit study type stuff that we can do together first.
Scripture Memorization and Prayer first
Then the subject of the day;
Mondays: Bible History
Tuesdays: Art and Music Appreciation (currently Classical Magic: Themes to Remember Volume I)
Wednesdays: Science (currently Hands of a Child "What is Snow" lapbook)
Thursdays: Social Studies (currently United States Geography)
Friday: Language (currently Grammar Songs)
Then, the children each do a lesson of their Math-U-See.
Then, they take turns playing with our Math Shark toy for a little math drill.
While they are waiting for their turn with the Math Shark they work on their Pathway Readers lesson (which is usually a page in their workbook that introduces new vocabulary, a story in their reader and then a reading comprehension page in their workbook after reading the story.)
During this time I work on laundry, checking email and blog hopping, if I have time!
They are then expected to work on Pemanship (except Kaitlyn... she's just beyond the need for that) and Journaling.
During this time, they each come to me for a Spelling Lesson (except for Hannah. She is only 6, but she likes to play spelling test with me sometimes. So if I have time, I humor her.)
Next is Quiet Time Reading while I grade Math and Reading Lessons.
By this time, it is usually lunch time and after lunch and clean up is Quiet Reading Time. I require my children to increase their daily minimum of Quiet Reading Time by 5 minutes per grade level.
When my children are pre-school age I make sure they work on ABCs and basic phonics 5 minutes a day.
At Kindergarten level they are to read with someone a min. of 10 minutes a day.
By first grade they are reading on their own for 15 minutes a day and so forth.
So our current minimums:
Hannah (K/ 1st grade): 15 minutes a day
Noah (3rd grade): 25 minutes a day
Ian (4th/5th grade): 35 minutes a day
Jordan (7th grade): 45 minutes a day
Kaitlyn (8th grade): 50 minutes a day
Right now, because Kaitlyn and Jordan have so much Bible Quiz studying to do I am allowing them to count the reading they are doing for that to count as their Quiet Time reading. They are studying 1-2 hours a day (plus a 2 hour team practice once a week.)
Then, for the rest of the afternoon, they may draw, read, play board games, help around the house, etc. NO TV until after snacktime (3PM).
I need to add typing to the schedule on a regular basis and it has been awhile since we have done any read-alouds other than Bible Quiz materials. I miss that. I bought a Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor for them and they love it, but I forget to have them do it. I need to just add it at a regular time each week so I don't forget.
How do you all work your schedule. What subjects am I missing? Any suggestions?
