In John Chapters 10 and 11 Jesus describes a good shepherd and then names Himself as The Good Shepherd. How appropriate that a good shepherd (AMOS) would point the way to The Good Shepherd!!!
People are much like sheep. (See Isaiah 53) Amos’ role as a shepherd prepared him for tenderness towards God’s sheep in ways a religious “degree” or other man-made qualifications could not have ever done.
John 15 describes a gardener and Jesus describes how He prunes US for a fruitful life of glorifying Him… The Vine!
Amos’ life as a gardener prepared him for pruning the people, which readied them for an abundant life in The Vine, if they would only HEAR the truth!
He was prepared to OBEY God and serve others selflessly. THAT is all we really need!
“God does not call the qualified
He qualifies the CALLED.”
(I searched for the name of the author of this phrase, but could not find it, but I write it in the front of my Homeschool Planner every year for the past few years!)
Amos was diligent in his shepherding and gardening and in his God-given role of a prophet. He was obedient to his CALLING and lived in an upright way.
He also foreshadowed Christ.
In Revelation 22 Christ tells us He will repay/reward and He is coming to do so SOON!
Will I be faithful to my CALL and use my time wisely?
Will YOU???????????
