The Salmon Princess: An Alaska Cinderella Story
By: Mindy Dwyer
We have SEVERAL different Cinderella books from around the world and this one is a nice addition to our collection!
Binky's Trophy: The Story of an Alaskan Polar Bear
by: Millie Spezialy
This book is a fictional account based on a real-life bear who had been rescued as a cub and lived in the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage for many years. It is cute, but a bit on the "twaddle" side, but then again, no more so than a Cinderella retelling, I guess! The children liked it!
When Grandma and Grandpa Visited Alaska They...
By: Bernd and Susan Richter
This book is meant to be read to the child by the grandparent and is written to facilitate dialogue with the grandparents, so it was a little awkward reading it to the children myself, but it has a lot of great information and our copy is autographed by the author!
Amazing Arctic Animals
By: Jackie Glassman
Illustrated by: Lisa Bonforte
This little book is an All Aboard Science Reader (Station Stop 2 Level). It had a bit of review from the Arctic Babies book we read earlier. I liked it because the younger ones could read it themselves, but I liked the Arctic Babies book better because of the beautiful photography!
Kitaq Goes Ice Fishing
Story By: Margaret Nicolai
Paintings By: David Rubin
This story really held my children's attention! It is sweetly written and the paintings are beautiful!
It is a fictional tale based on memories that the author's husband shared with her about growing up in a
small Alaskan village. It is about a little boy's first ice fishing trip with his grandfather. The book uses
many Alaskan words and has a glossary and pronunciation guide in the back.
I think we have one more "Alaskan book"... its a rather long one about Artic People. I will let you know what we thought of it when we finish it!
