I have been taking walks several days a week with a friend of mine. We go early in the morning while her dh is still home (her dc are too little to be home alone). Usually, my dh leaves before we go so my oldest daughter is in charge while I'm gone.
I live near a little lake. It takes about 30 minutes to walk around the lake and then we sometimes take an extra cul-de-sac or so to make our walk about 45 minutes long and about 2.5 miles.
I always take my cell phone and my children are instructed to finish all their morning chores and be ready to start school when I arrive home.
Friday morning I was about a 10 minute walk from home when my cell phone rang. It was my oldest, Kaitlyn!
She told me that Hannah was eating an apple and started gasping for air. She started to turn purple and Kaitlyn had to do what she called "That Manuever Thing"...
I made it home in about 4 minutes I think. Hannah was fine, but a little shaken up. It didn't effect her appetite though! She was back to eating that apple right after she coughed it up!
I was thankful I had taught them how to do the Heimlich Manuever!
I asked them if they would have known what to do if she had lost consciousness and proceeded to teach them how to do some basic CPR.
THIS morning while I was reading devotions to the children I looked over at Hannah and realized she was administering chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth to her stuffed Pooh Bear!
When I started to think about it I got pretty emotional. I am so thankful that Kaitlyn kept her wits about her and protected her little sister swiftly!
But it sure was scary for me thinking about what COULD have happened!
