Ain't No Thing
This evening as I was making supper my sweet husband came in from work and began to get the Evening News from the Town Criers (a.k.a. our children!)
Jordan especially likes to relate the honey-do list additions that have occured during the day... you know, all the stuff that has been broken within the course of "normal wear and tear" dished out by 5 rambunctious children, glitches that have occured in our routine, mail needing Russ' attention, problems with the neighbors, discipline issues with his siblings, etc. Anything requiring Daddy's touch!
So as Jordan is telling Russ that ever since he rewired our intercom (so that he can plug his ipod into it) our doorbell no longer chimes! I am not sure exactly how he worded it but it was something about how it "Ain't working right"!
I began to complain out loud about how although this child has spent 14 hours a day 7 days a week for the past nearly 13 years with ME... listening to proper grammar that it is SOOO unfair that he picks up on his Daddy's bad habit of using the word ain't! I just shook my head as I mumbled half to myself and half to anyone within listening range.
Jordan's cheery reply?
"That's not true mom! I pick up on YOUR bad habits too!"
To which Russ responded,
"Well, there's your blog entry for tonight!"
By the way, the doorbell ain't broke no more neither!

"Ain't" was my Mom's pet peeve. Of course the edition of the dictionary that graced our home didn't contain the word. She was able to truthfully assert. "Ain't" isn't in the dictionary and is not a word. She had a jar in the kitchen... saying ain't cost us a nickel. Cussing was a quarter. This really didn't work all that well because my Dad emptied the jar every Friday to buy ice cream. :o)
Oh, and when my little sister really wanted to rile my Mom (she was one of those kids who just don't know when to stop!)
"Ain't ain't a word, so I ain't going to say ain't four times a day!"

What..... they have some of your bad habits? I would never have thought..........
I always joke with the kids when they speak incorect english.... I say " I need to have a word with your teacher about that!" or " Your teacher don't learn you very good english!"

Although it wasn't proper grammar, I'm sure it sounded very sweet.
Honestly I wish my doorbell was disconnected.
The only time it rings is during naptime.
Hope you are feeling better.
Thank you for all of your sweet comments on my blog.
Blessings,
Linda
