Blest Be the Tie That BindsText: John Fawcett, 1740-1817
Music: Johann G. Nageli, 1768-1836; arr. by Lowell Mason, 1792-1872
1. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. 2. Before our Father's throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares. 3. We share each other's woes, our mutual burdens bear; and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear. 4. When we asunder part, it gives us inward pain; but we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.
Everyday we sing 1-3 hymns during our family devotional time.
The other day when we were singing this song it made me think not only of the
way I feel about my family, but also the dearest friendships I have.
Sometimes I feel so lonely. I rarely leave my home lately.
Homeschooling is all consuming! By the time schoolwork is done,
I have barely enough time to do the housework and prepare meals.
I don't understand how we got anything done when we had 1,000 outside
commitments. I am thankful that we can be home more and get more
meaningful things accomplished.
I think when the Scripture says that God puts the lonely in families it applies
not only to bringing those without a family in, but ALSO to the fact that
we can find TRUE friendship within the walls of our own home sweet home!
My children and my husband really ARE my best friends!
I love them with all of my heart!
With that said, I do SOOOOOO value the friends that God has sent to encourage
and exhort me and particularly those on MOMYS.com and Homeschoolblogger!
Without those outside reminders to honor my husband and be an unselfish
blessing to my children I would be down-hearted and frustrated without end!
The above hymn speaks of like-mindedness, prayers, bearing each other's burdens,
and spurring one another on to love and good deeds.
Let me just say thank-you to all of my friends, but especially to Jacque.
You know how blessed I feel to have your reminders and thought-provoking
insights and exhortations!
To all of you:
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace!
