HOMESTEAD CARNIVAL #37: Come Along With Me On A Trip to the Ol' Homestead!

I have never been much of a Homesteader.  I do not come to anything "natural" naturally!  It has taken confidence to try and time to learn and much of it has been from asking questions and watching others much more skilled than me.

Today, let's learn some more together!  Come with me!  Let's journey to the local homestead and see what we can learn there!  The trip will not take long, just read along and CLICK wherever you see something interesting and we will be on our way!  Of course, your children are welcome to come along too!   The more the merrier!

As we journey down the lane to this friendly place the first thing we spot is the GARDEN!

As we approach the homestead, several friends who can teach us more greet us!

Catherine Love gives us a little lesson about   Herbs: specifically  dill .  YUMMY!  Dill is one of my favorite herbs and I use it to season many of our family's veggies!

Peggy Hostetler can teach how to Grow Your Own Sprouts.  Such a healthy addition to any menu!  I had some sprouts on a sandwich just this past week and vowed to learn more!

Karen Southernbelle presents COUNTRY LIFE - What am I to do now?  She shares her lovely flowers, herbs and CANNING!

Ahh!  The lovely fragrances of the garden linger as we leave the garden and turn to gather inside the homestead.

Gather an armload of flowers and a basket of herbs and let's move on to our next natural stop: the KITCHEN!

Libby Rosengren prepares such tasty Breakfast Foods!  Such bright fruits and a lovely breakfast casserole!  You must remember to get the recipe to try with your own family!

While we all visit and relax after such a satisfying meal, Robinlyn gives us all a Pizza Tutorial.  The children will LOVE THIS!

All the while, we smell wonderful aromas as Amy presents A Sweet Day meal that she prepared for her family!  Her Red Velvet Cake recipe will make your mouth water!

As we all pitch in to tidy up the kitchen Leslie Veleska comes up with a GREAT idea for  Dishpan StorageThis will really come in handy.

Grab your notebooks and start writing down all these great money saving tips from Erica Burgan as she explains  How to Save Money with a Gallon of Milk !  With the price of milk rising you will love these ideas!

Talk turns to other ways to recycle and save money as we tour the home office and discuss ways to stretch the budget! Balancing the checkbook will be a little bit easier next month!

Grandma Rosie amazes us all with 20 Extraordinary Uses for Old Pantyhose ..  found online !  I especially love the idea of making lavender sachets!

Leslie chimes in with some more GREAT ideas about  how to Save on your electricity bill and Save the earth!

We all thoroughly enjoy jotting down these tips as we take a peek at the well-stocked LAUNDRY ROOM...  a real hub of activity in most homes!

Robin brought pictures of her Laundry Room Makeover!  It is ABSOLUTELY adorable!

Right around the corner from the laundry room is the conveniently located school room!

Laura Williams told us all about her  Day (homeschool and all) .  I love hearing about other's schedules.  It gives me so many new ideas to draw from.

I have never been great at taking the time for special projects, but after hearing about Abi's Exploding Rainbow, I feel inspired to try this one!

We gather all of our children together and take them OUTSIDE to see Belle give a demonstration of   Sap Collecting with PICTURES!!! We all learned so much.

Standing around by the barn, Amanda relays how she is  Feelin' Guilty about letting her horses go.  We all give her hugs and words of encouragement as we head back inside.  A warm cup of tea and some kind conversation hits the spot! Pick a seat and get comfy!

As we sip and visit, Karen Dowell gives many fabulous Tips to get the most out of your log fire .  Did you know that "if you want to supplement your wood supply and recycle newspapers you could use a log maker?"  Karen shares about two different types!

As we all gather our little ones, the last bits of conversation turns to all manner of various bits of information that Kerimae dubs  This n That Brain Dump.  Ahh!  It feels good to talk it all out!  I can't wait to learn more about making the worm bins!  That could be very useful with my garden!

Jacque Dixon of Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths has been researching moving across country. There are so many things to consider, like family, homeschool laws, weather, home birth laws and taxes. She says they are Moving: Don't Know When, Don't Know Where.  I hope it will be closer to us!  Don't  you?

As we all head our separate ways I mention how nice it is that we can all visit this way without ever leaving our own homes through the blessing of THE INTERNET!

We all agree because we all dearly value our home life, but  is a special treat to learn from one another!

What were you worried about?? This is fantastic! I love the pictures too!
I would be thrilled to live next door! But, then you'd move, and I'd be stuck there alone!! :)
Wouldn't that be awesome? Pop on over for tea?
HUGS and blessings!
You did a great job! A+ mom!

I don't think I fall into the category of "homesteader" either, but I appreciate all the links you posted. That's great browsing for a wanna-be!

My name is Christina. I am 38 years old and have been happily married to my best friend, Russ for over 18 years! My username is quietcajun, but I am neither quiet, nor cajun! The nickname is based on my children's initials! The first four children are: Kaitlyn (16.5), Jordan (14 ), Ian (13), and Noah (10)... put their first intials together and you get KJIN (cajun). Sarah Hope is one of our babies in Heaven and Hannah (8) is my youngest (so far). Put S and H together and you get SH as in SHHHH... QUIET. Get it? Thus, quietcajun! We are in our 12th year of homeschooling. We have tried public school, but we soon realized how important it is that they be HOME at all costs. Now we are back to having them all home again! It's not always easy, but it is for the BEST! Two of our children have Asperger's Syndrome. That is an adventure in itself. We are still learning! This blog is a place for me to sort out the daily joys and challenges of life as a mother and wife as I strive to love and know God more and bring GLORY to HIM in EVERY part of my LIFE!!!!
