A VERY Weird Presidential Story!!!!
My children memorize the presidents every four years! Guess how we chose which year? LOL!
So, this is the year and we revitalized our silly story that helps us remember them. It goes something like this:
Once upon a time George had to WASH-a-ton (Washington) of laundry b/c John got Adams peanut butter on his clothes. Thomas Jefferson was Mad-at-his-son (Madison) and made him ROW (Monroe) a boat. BUT... he got MORE Adams peanut butter from John Jr.
Andrew hi-JACKED (Jackson) the boat they were rowing with his friend Martin Van Buren. They had too many people in the Tippecanoe with Tyler too... (Harrison and Tyler) so they decided to get out of the boat and eat some TWINKIES!
James Knox POKED (Polk) the Twinkies and broke them.
Zachary was a TAILOR (Taylor) and tried to sew the Twinkies back together.
Millard Filled-MOre (Fillmore) back up with cream.
Franklin PIERCED (Pierce) the Twinkies and broke them AGAIN!
Then, James blew them UP! with his Bu-CANON (Buchanon).
Poor Honest Abe decided to free the enslaved Twinkies, but was killed by the Bu-Canon. (Sorry so graphic. I have three sons, you know! They like WAR!)
Next, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S Grant began to fight... maybe it was about Adam's peanut butter or tipping over row boats or Twinkies... we don't know. But it was such a fight that Rutherford had to admonish them to B-Have (B. Hayes). He sat them down to watch some cartoons to break up the fight.
First they watched Garfield, then Arthur (which by the way, my children are NOT allowed to watch!), then Grover (Cleveland) and then Harrison (there is a cartoon with a character named Harrrison, or so I am told by my children!)... then, another show with Grover (Cleveland.)
That's enough TV, so they decided to hike up Mount McKinley to find a TEDDY bear (Teddy Roosevelt). They began to fight again... this time over the TAFFY (Taft) that William Howard Taft had brought along.
This fight became a WAR (Warren G. Harding). Along came Calvin and warned them all to COOL-IT! (Coolidge). Herbert brought his HOOVER vaccuum cleaner and cleaned up the whole mess.
On the way home they met FDR who was a TRUE-Man (Truman), but everyone really liked IKE! (Eisenhower). FDR started something though and since he was a true man others thought that going by their initials would be like him. So JFK and LBJ gave it a try. Richard thought it was silly and NIXED (Nixon) the whole idea!
They all got into a FORD CAR (Carter). As they were driving along... poor Ronald was shot with a ray gun (Reagan). Don't worry he lived! He hid from the gunman behind a BUSH! Mean ol' Clinton pulled him out but he ran and hid behind ANOTHER BUSH!
Let's just hope another Clinton doesn't pull him back out again!
Have fun making up a silly story with YOUR children this year! And tell me about it!

Now THAT is a way to memorize some information. I'm going to have to get my kids to write some things for facts we need to memorize. We use social stories all the time for autistic tendencies, can't believe we haven't become as creative as you and spread them onto other areas! What a really well written little story. Thanks so much for sharing. Hugs!

Thank you so much for your comment!! It so helps to be able to talk to and receive advice from moms that have more than 2 kids.

We sing the list of presidents to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star. It works!!!
Thanks for commenting on my poor, neglected little blog. I have resolved to begin blogging again. Thanks for the inspiration.
