Leap Day Time Capsule and Other Fun Ideas!
I meant to post this early enough to be useful, but maybe you can still glean a few ideas from it even now!
Tomorrow is Leap Day... only comes once every four years!
Everyday is a school day in a family where learning is a lifestyle instead of a time frame on the clock.
So why not make Leap Day really interesting? You can make this projects as simple or complex as desired!
In The News:
Look up headlines for previous Leap Days. Since it falls in Presidential Election Years make sure to find out who was running.
The History of:
Find out WHY there is a leap day and when it was instituted.
The Science of:
Learn about the Scientific Aspect of Leap Day.
Social Studies:
Learn about other calendar systems of the past.
Bible:
Find some verses that have the word LEAP. Do you know any choruses about leaping for joy? etc.
Get Active:
Play Leap Frog or tiddly winks!
In the Kitchen:
Make Petit fours or some other special treat that relates to the number four, Leap Year or whatever other creative ideas you can think of!
Write About it:
Write About Yourself Past, Present and Future.
How old were you last leap day? How many leap days have you lived through? How old are you now and how old will you be next leap day?
Compare yourself at these various ages.
What do you think you will be doing in four years? eight years?
Take a photo and collect a few items including some of the above project information and seal it in a TIME CAPSULE. This could be a shoe box that you decorate or anything you'd like. Mark it "Do NOT open until Feb. 29, 2012
I'd love to hear what you all come up with or have already done!

I'd never put two and two together that Leap day's are always election years...this post had lots of good ideas! We are headed to the Seattle zoo, they are having frog themed activities, should be fun!
