I'd like to say I am such a clever homeschool MOMY and thought this activity up myself. Or at least, I'd like to take credit for how much learning actually occured in the process, but the truth is... the following is a true story of what happens when my children are allowed to PLAY!
For a few years now the children have had their own play LAND. If we have large boxes they will build BOX CITY as part of this land. They have launch space ships from their land. They have a secret labrotory in this land. They're imaginations never stop. And from time to time they hold elections in their land.
Now, their land is called Monkey Town. I am told it is a rather large town, more like a small country. But nonetheless, it is called Monkey Town. No one is quite sure why. I have heard several different reasons, but that would be a story for a different day!
Monkey Town has two predominate parties: The Leopards and the Monkeys, of course.
I am never quite sure when election time will roll around. It is on a bit more random of a schedule than we have here in America, but once they start you know it!
First of all campaign posters appear EVERYWHERE!
In the bathroom, over my bed, in the kitchen, EVEN IN the SHOWER!!!!
Promises are made:
These are actual photos taken by one of the candidates!
Platforms are established... I think if you click on the first campaign poster photo you will be able to read some of what they typed up!
Debates ensue as to possible past criminal records! The candidates work hard to clean up their act!
Some drop out of the race to pursue more important goals, like contributing to hearth and home!
Some tire of the dirty politics and just sleep through the whole process... or TRY to!
Discussions turn to the seriousness of the situation!
Polling begins and the primary elections follow!
The Papprazzi (or in this case, the Mamarazzi begin to harrass the candidates)
After the primaries (on SUPER TUESDAY, of course!), more campaign ads appear in unexpected venues!
And soon enough, it is secret ballot day.
Then, come the discussions from The King and The Queen of Monkey Town on good sportsmanship and the importance of keeping your promises!
All in all, it was a good election process and everyone learned a lot!
