This year Noah just wanted a family party and asked for a "Volcano Cake"... I found a cute idea on Family Fun and ended up with a decent volcano that Noah LOVED!
First I made the candy lava. Nothing about this candy or cake was healthy, but it was a fun, special treat. The picture above on the right is Kaitlyn helping Noah with his new erector set (bday gift) while they waited for the birthday celebration!
I used a red velvet cake and made a bundt cake, a smaller cake in a glass bown and a tiny cake in a glass ramikin. I stacked them up and frosted. Red icing gel and red sparkles created the drippy lava.
Noah was thrilled with the effect! Here he is inspecting it!
I added the candy lava on the top, down the sides and in lava floes along the bottom.
It looked pretty cute just like that, but the long sparkling red candles really made it extra interesting!
Noah ready to blow out the candles. I wonder what he wished for! :)
I also made homemade meatballs for his requestd homemade meatball calzones!
They turned out quite YUMMMY!
I cannot believe my Noah is TEN!

Oct. 6, 2008 - So sweet.
What a sweet blog! I was checking in this morning to see if you'd been on and I noticed you had a blog. Hope you don't mind my peeking in. This is melissamomof3girls from momys.com.
I love that cake! My youngest is turning 2 this Sunday and my middle is turning 4 in a few weeks. I have yet to decide what cakes to do for them. I bet my middle would love a volcano cake!!!
Also, I saw your homemade hot dog buns. YUMMY! I've made homemade hamburger buns and they were delicious. I've wanted to try the hot dog ones but have yet to try it.
