The " VERDICT" is in
Well, we had a meeting at the school today and they have decided to help Jordan by setting up an IEP for him after all. They will start Occupational Therapy with him and they will select a para to be a scribe for him as the teacher deems necessary.
They still are hinting at the need for meds. and are already discussing "next year". NO! NO next year! He will be out of there as soon as possible, but I would like to just wait it out a bit longer and see if Yolanda (the OT) can't help him. I just think she can. I really wanted her to be able to help him last year when he was still at home. That is what I tried to get to happen, but they told me they could not help him without either a label or basically a classroom teacher asking for him to be helped. (sigh... that can't be right.)
Oh... and meanwhile... we might not be here next year anyway... there is a possibility that we will be transferred to Hawaii. For real! We lived there for 3 years 11 years ago. Kaitlyn and Jordan were born there. If we go, it will be for 5 years. Well, we'll see what happens.

If you can pay for the plane ticket to Hawaii (assuming that we go) then you can have a free "hotel" there if you come to visit us! :)

My daughter needed speech therapy years ago. In Missouri, our special school district handles the special needs, but they typically do it through their local public school building. I had 2 options back then. 1) Use my evenings to take her to a building for 30 min. twice a week for therapy. Or, 2) use the dual-enrollment accessibility and let her ride the bus to school with me doing supplemental pick-up. The trick was that legislation wouldn't allow her to have therapy in the local public school unless she was enrolled in at least one other class at that school. My solution: I enrolled her in P.E. LOL. She needed it anyway. Maybe there is that sort of possibility in your district, too? Instead of an "all or nothing" approach, does your state allow dual-enrollment?
