Let's see, I started my Mother's Day weekend on Thursday or so by rereading my own blog entry from May 2006...
I was feeling a little pouty because I was already anticipating how imperfect "MY" Mother's Day was going to be. Reminding myself not to ruin my own day with silly (and clearly UNBIBLICAL) expectations was a great place to start.
I don't know about you, but it is amazing how many reminders I need to think right! It's no wonder my children struggle with first time obedience to me and their father. I struggle with first time obedience to my Heavenly Father everyday!
Friday, my husband sent me a beautiful boquet of assorted roses (all quite lovely) in a pinkish-purple vase! There was even a box of chocolates! He was so proud of himself! I just love that man!!!
Friday evening, my hubby wanted to see the new Star Trek movie. We didn't get home until almost 10. It is nice that the children are all old enough for an occasional later excursion!
On Saturdays we try to observe a Sabbath Day rest. I do as much preparation work on Friday during the day so that at sunset on Friday we can begin our Shabbat and take a break from any unnecessary work. I have to admit I am terrible at this. I will "catch" myself working and will be surprised that I am doing it purely out of habit. Funny, isn't it?
I DID read a great book and chatted with my hubby and then on the phone with a friend until about 11. Then, I suddenly remembered that I needed to be at a friend's house at noon. I was not showered or dressed and had not had a bite to eat yet. OH, and by the way, the friend lives 40 minutes away. OOPS!
I managed to get dressed! Well, of course, I did not drive there in my pajamas! But I did not shower or eat! I was on time and picked Kaitlyn up from a birthday party she had attended! (Usually we do not allow Kaitlyn to attend slumber parties, but this one was only girls in the home because the dad and the boys spent the night elsewhere and it was only a handful of girls who are like-minded with modest and conservative values so my hubby and I felt that it would be fine.)
I stayed for about 30 or 40 minutes visiting with the mom of the birthday girl and another mom picking up her daughter. I had not seen either of them in a long while and it was so fun catching up with them. The birthday girls' mom is newly pregnant with her 11th baby! What a precious joy!
On the way home, Kaitlyn shared with me all of the wonderful conversations they had had at the party about courtship, modesty, a pure heart, etc. Oh how refreshing! They had watched Pride & Predjudiced on Friday afternoon and evening and then had watched Fireproof that morning. It had sparked some really great conversations!
We arrived home a few minutes after 1PM. A friend called and asked if she could come by (since she was in the area) and learn how to make kefir! I was so excited to share that with her and while I was waiting for her arrival I found myself in one of those situations I described above where I was working out of habit. My friend ended up getting caught in traffic and it took her over an hour to get to my house. By the time she arrived I had vaccummed the whole upstairs, unloaded the dishwasher, ground 16 cups of grain, mixed up dough for 4 loaves of bread and had it rising on the stove top, and pulled down all my kefiring supplies... but I forgot to eat. Now remember I had not had any breakfast.
My friend and I had not seen each other in a long time and had a great time kefiring and visiting while her four lovely children played with my children. She stayed for a couple hours and just as she was leaving ANOTHER friend stopped by! What an unusual day!
THIS friend had been decluttering and had found two dresses and a pretty skirt that she thought I might like to have! Wasn't that thoughtful? We enjoyed watching her two little ones play in the backyard with my two youngest (who no longer like to be called "Littles" now that they are 8 and 10!) while my older children were on a bike ride with their Daddy! It was such a pleasant day!
At 3:15 Kaitlyn was picked up by a friend and given a ride to her Driver's Ed. class. This was her third weekend of classes! My friends' daughter is also taking the class so we've been able to carpool! What a blessing THAT is!
I FINALLY remembered to eat breakfast at 5:30 PM. Shame on me. I am hypoglycemic, so I immediately realized that I had really goofed and that I will need to be mindful of the effects over the next few days.
Our evening was relaxing. I finished a shawl for a 12 year old daughter of a friend from MOMYS and started an afghan for our neighbors.
Sunday morning was pretty typical, but it included a cute card from my boys and a chocolate chai tea from the coffee shop on the way to church... with KAITLYN driving! She is really catching on though! At first I would get really queasy, but she is doing better every drive!
The church service was so nice. I tend to be a crier at church and this was no exception. The Holy Spirit was definitely present and tears flowed, but in a good way. All of the moms received some nice garden gloves as a gift. I am really looking forward to using mine to get my garden ready for starts that are arriving next week!
After church we went to Subway. I know that doesn't sound romantic, but I love meatball marinara subs! My hubby knows me so well! We also saw our new pastor and his family swing by and get some subs too! So it was not all that weird, I suppose! ;)
When we arrived home I folded a load of laundry and did some ironing so my hubby will have shirts ready for his work week. I made a mental note to get a new iron and ironing board as both are literally falling apart!
The girl who we carpool with for Driver's Ed. decided to stay home and spend the day with her mama so when it was time for Kaitlyn to go to her class the whole family rode with me so they could spend the rest of the day with ME! Wasn't that sweet?
While we waited for Kaitlyn I did go get that new iron! (and a new pencil sharpener for homeschool... I can't believe how often we need a new one!)
After Kaitlyn's class we came home and relaxed all together. I crocheted a lot more on the neighbor's new afghan and watched a movie and got to bed way tooooooo late!
This morning I got up early and walked around the lake, made kefir smoothies for my children and myself (and we had English muffins). So far we have accomplished devotions and quite a bit of our day's schoolwork and a few loads of laundry. Now it's time for lunch.
Now, I realize this is a very boring entry, but I am just trying to get back into the routine of blogging at all. I hope that I will have some cute stories, inspiring insights or at least a thought that is more than just on the surface next time! Thanks for reading and I have missed all of you!
Have a GREAT week! See you again SOON!
