Answer to a comment
I can't remember who made the comment and I am too lazy to check right now :) but someone said that Jordan's learning disabilities must not be too bad if he taught himself how to read. Aha! And therin lies the problem! I had a hard time (and am still working on this) getting it all diagnosed. But he has a non-verbal learning disorder. That sounds like the opposite of what it actually is. NLD is when a child excells in VERBAL things but struggles with anything non-verbal. Jordan can read amazingly well, but can barely write his own first name. He took much longer than average to learn to do many things like walk, tie his shoes, ride a bike, etc. He seems to be EXTREMELY awkward and clumsy, cannot do simple mazes or dot-to-dots, cannot assemble simple puzzles, etc.
He understands all of his math facts, but for instance if he has to do a two digit times a two digit multiplication problem chances are he'll forget the steps involved. If you talk him through it he will still likely get it wrong b/c he cannot write neatly enough to keep all of his columns straight.
He lack impulse control and is being evaluated for ADD/ADHD also. He is insightful and interesting, but drives most people so buggy that they cannot see past that.
I am very relieved to be bringing him HOME where he belongs!

I understand Jordon's reading problems. Conor has mild autism, which I guess is like a NVLD, he taught himself to read and was reading before he had language processing skills. So reading is there, but comprehenion isn't. I;m all for reading LATE (say, 10...) learning to read before there is comprehenshin just isn't all it's cracked up to be..
I just wrote an entry about this actually.... like 15 minutes ago...
hav fun with the Brain Gym. the small routines we've added have been nice

Oh... have you tried using graph paper for math, that is what I use with my kids, esp the ones that can't write well enough to line up numbers (yet have more than enough intelligence to DO themath)
or we just turn lined paper on it's side.... so it has collumns

Thanks for the nice comment on Gena's blog, about the yarn. So, just for you I posted a much better photo of it so you can go see how truly lovely it is. (I know, I am bragging. Mom's have a license for that!)
I need to come back and read your blog too, but I just wanted to come over and tell you to go see! :)
Blessings,
