Reason #129 to Homeschool....

Posted in Learning

I was inspired by Molly at Countercultural School to share a reason we love homeschooling.  I, too, love the way you can "do school" wherever you go.

My reason to homeschool is simple....IT ISN'T BORING!  It  has been a challenge to find things that interest Pickles but are appropriate for him to learn.  We struggle with the gap between his ability and his maturity but with homeschooling we can bridge it beautifully!

Learning from REAL books and putting our own thoughts on paper.

Pickles copying a map of Ancient Greece (purely his idea and he worked hard on it)

As a former Early Childhood Educator and now a mom I've always held the opinion that little ones can learn about BIG things as well as older children.  I think that is why I love Charlotte Mason and Classical Education so much.  You share the world with your children and they learn that grown-ups are still learning too!  What an example we are to our children when we show them that learning never stops.

Yes! I like the picture of your son painting pottery.

I have a tendency to make lessons boring, but I'm working on it. :) I do find that my children add so much to any ideas I present. Their creativity amazes me!

Peace to you,

Love your post! I love anything that is cross-curricular or that has "synergy"....the reading, geography, and art all about the same topic really makes the learning connections on so many levels!

You should enter this post in the Charlotte Mason blog carnival....there is a link to it in the right side bar of my cc school blog. Click on the picture and it will take you to a page where you can scroll down and enter this URL for the next edition of the carnival....you can also click on Past editions and see what other CM-ers are doing! There are many of us who are combining CM and Classical methods. This post would fit perfectly!

We are almost done with school, too. TWO more DAYS! I am pinching myself. We were supposed to be done today, but some extended family came to our area, on the spur of the moment, to camp.....and so we took two days of spring break instead, to fish and have bonfires....and we'll finish up next week. Now THAT'S Reason #130 why I love.....!

Thanks for submitting this to the Charlotte Mason blog carnival! I hadn't thought about making Greek pottery for our current ancient Greece study--thanks!

I love your pictures especially the one at the very top of all the kids. For a minute there I thought it would say below that those were your 3 reasons to homeschool. Which is true I know. It is great where we can bridge any gaps and pull back on certain studies whiel forging ahead in other studies. Something that they can't really do in public schools. I have homeschooled for over 16 years with one graduated now and still fell that it was the right choice for us.

That is really awesome. You really put forth a lot of work though letting him carry out his ideas. Great job. Especially on that art project.
