As a Vision Forum Affialiate I welcomed the opportunity to choose a product to review for the past 30 days. This is a new experience for me and I enjoyed it immensely.
I chose to review the newly released CD album from a past Faith and Freedom tour through Philadelphia. I visited Philadelphia briefly as a young person and have always longed to return. Secondly, I thought it would be good background knowledge for me to have as a homeschooling mom. Finally, dh and I have always wanted to participate in a Faith and Freedom Tour but time, money, and family commitments have never aligned as needed for such a venture. So, I embarked on my first review with foggy memories of cobblestone streets, the Liberty Bell, and a bunch of old clapboard buildings.
You'll find my thoughts below in the most effective literary device I use these days the practically simple and yet brillantly usable laundry list.
1. The narrative style of the talks was very easy to listen to and even my five year old son enjoyed listening to the stories of brave soldiers and leaders. I found him starting to ask questions after we had listened in the car on a trip to the doctor's office.
2. I have been hoping to learning more history from a Christian worldview since we started using Tapestry of Grace last fall but it can be difficult to find the time to research and read with my busy little ones and home to care for. This CD series was just what I needed. It isn't compehensive of course but I feel like I have "met" the men behind the names I memorized for the exam in eleventh grade and then promptly forgot.
3. It was a blessing to be reminded of our legacy as Americans. It also gives me hope for the future and a purpose to continue being a diligent homeschooling parent.
4. I appreciated the mix of history and a godly perspective of Providence.
5. I'm thankful for the reminder that while our founding fathers didn't always agree on doctrine or worship practice they had a deep respect for the "Christian Hertiage" that American was being founded in. I pray we return to that respectful and proper perspective.
The only frustration I had with the series was with the quaility of some of the audio. It was captured in a "live" state and under difficult circumstances (walking tour subject to weather and location) and it didn't continue though the entire series. It was limited to disc one and two. There seemed to be large gaps of dead air between some of the talks.
I enjoyed my first review experience and hope you find my thoughts helpful.
