I was a wise man in the Christmas play. I had four lines and a really neat costume.  We practiced every week for three months. It was a lot of fun. I'd really like to do the next play too.

• Sunday, December 16, 2007 - Lego League 2007 Power Puzzle

This year I did Lego League. It was my first time. This year the challenge was called Power Puzzle. We had to make a model of something that uses power and we had to shown where the power comes from. We also had to make something move and use at least one simple machine. Our Model showed a television set. the television was connected to the wall of the house which went to the power lines and then to a coal plant where it was burned and the steam turned some large turbines to make energy. We made a conveyor belt that brought the coal into the building. We also had a train that brought the coal. Our conveyor belt used gears which is a simple machine. We used a motor to make the conveyor belt move. My team won a prize for the best motion. This was so much fun I can't wait to do it next year

• Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - Videos I watch: God Grew Tired of Us

We have been learning about Africa. One of the countries in Africa is Sudan. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. This video was sad in the beginning but happy in the end. It is about the Lost Boys of Sudan. They walked a long way to Ethiopia and then Kenya to get away from war. A lot of them died from having no food. But a lot of them lived. Some came to this country. The end was happy because one of the lost boys got to see his mother for the first time in a long time. They were both so happy.

This summer I took part in my state's reading program. The program this year was "Reading Road Trip" Every day I read and then I got to fill in a square for every ten minutes of reading I did. I made it all the way around the country on my map! I also won a t-shirt and a gift certificate to the books store. Some of the books I read this summer were The Littles and the Trash Tinies, Mr. Popper's Penguins, and lots of books that I read to my sister. She loves it when I read to her.  Her favorite book right now is Hello, Sun.  She wants me to read this to her all of the time!

• Saturday, May 26, 2007 - Reading: Spiders

I read this book myself. My favorite spider that I learned about was the trapdoor spider. He is very funny. If he catches food that he doesn't like he throws it out of his trap door!

• Sunday, May 20, 2007 - Reading: The Littles

I read this book all by myself. It was such a good book. It is about people who are very tiny. They live in the walls of a house.  I think it would be fun to be small like that. Then you could  fit into all sorts of tiny tunnels. My favorite part was the elevator that the littles made out of a tin can. I can't wait to read the next book.

• Monday, May 14, 2007 - Field Trip: Boston Children's Museum

We went to the Boston Children's Museum. They recently changed it around. i am so happy that they kept the ball room. There are lots of tracks to put the balls on. It is my favorite room. They also have a new climbing part but it was too scary for me. I don't like to go too far off the ground.  I had a lot of fun here with my friend Katie.

• Wednesday, April 4, 2007 - Field Trip: Parker's Maple Barn

We went to a maple syrup barn with some other homeschoolers. Maple syrup comes from sugar maple trees. The sap goes up during the day and then at night it goes back down to the roots. You  have to catch it while it is going up and down. You use a drill and drill into the tree. After that you  put a little spout in the hole and then a bucket. You put a cover over the bucket so the rain doesn't get in. Then it goes into a gathering bucket. We saw the big machine that they use to make maple syrup. The machine boils sap. Then it goes to the corner and the sap turns into maple syrup. It goes into another machine that puts it into bottles. It really looks like a coffee machine though. After we visited the sugar house we went inside and had pancakes and hot chocolate! yummy!

• Friday, March 16, 2007 - Egyptian Mummy

This is King Fruitenkhamen. He is my mummy. First I carved his face and then I took his organs out. That is what Egyptians did with their mummies. They left the mummy covered  for forty days. They covered mummies with linen strips. Then they uncovered them and washed them again. Then they covered them again. I will wrap my mummy soon. Right now he is covered in natron which is a mixture of salt and soda. It makes him dry out.  We also put spices on him to make him smell nice. Egyptians used to do that too. Dad says my mummy is GROSS! I like him though. He is cute.

• Monday, March 12, 2007 - The Nile River

The Nile River is really long. Part of it is in Egypt. It empties into the Mediteranian Sea. It turns into a delta at the end. Delta is a greek letter that looks like a triangle just like the delta on the river! I made a Nile river out of sand clay. It was fun.

• Monday, March 5, 2007 - History: Egyptian Paddle Doll

Paddle dolls are dolls made out of wood. Ancient Egyptians buried people with them. They thought the doll would take care of the person in the afterlife.

Ancient Egyptians painted their faces sideways.

• Friday, March 2, 2007 - Story of the World Volume I: Audio

My CDs came in the mail! I started the first one 10 days ago and now I am on the second one.  I love history because I do so many projects.  Right now I am reading about ancient Chinese people. They were farmers and they grew rice. The Egyptians couldn't grow rice because rice needs wet muddy ground to grow and Egypt is a dry dessert.
