Quinn's Adventures In Real World Schooling

• Friday, March 2, 2007 - Story of the World Volume I: Audio

My CDs came in the mail! I started the first one 10 days ago and now I am on the second one.  I love history because I do so many projects.  Right now I am reading about ancient Chinese people. They were farmers and they grew rice. The Egyptians couldn't grow rice because rice needs wet muddy ground to grow and Egypt is a dry dessert.

• Friday, February 23, 2007 - See Science Center

We went to the See Science Center with some friends! There was a giant lego sculpture of the mill buildings in Manchester. Manchester used to have the biggest mill complex in the world! It must have taken a long time to build that sculpture! They also had dinosaurs there. There was a giant T-Rex. He looked hungry. I am glad he wasn't real

• Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - Math Games: Corners

This is a new fun game. There are square cards with numbers. You have to lay the corners together so that they add up to 5, 10, 15, or 20. Then you add your score.  I win this game all of the time. I especially like to have hot cocoa with my mom during math.

• Friday, February 2, 2007 - Science: Human Body

I have been learning about the human body.  My mom got a cool game called SomeBody. You have to get all of the different parts of the body and stick them on in the right spots. I already beat my mom twice!

My favorite part is the Liver because it cleans the blood.

I also have a neat computer game that I like to play around with. It has videos and you can see all of the systems of your body!

• Tuesday, January 2, 2007 - Memory Box

Mom has made a memory box. In it there are lots of folders. Everyday we take out papers from the folders. We always take out the papers from the daily folder. That is because we practice the the things in the daily folder every day. Then I look at the calendar to see if the day is even or odd. Then I take stuff out of the even or odd folder. Then I take stuff out of the right day of the week and then from the day of the month. We practice everything. Then we put them back. If we learn something in the daily folder then we move it back to even or odd. Then we move something from those folders back to the days of the week. I like learning stuff from the memory box. Right now I am working on the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. I like his poems. My sister can say it too! I am also learning science definitions and maps. I am learning Psalm 1.

• Sunday, December 17, 2006 - Advent Calendar

Mom made an advent calendar. We hung it up in our hallway. Every day we took off the top and there was a picture underneath. Then we went to listen to Mom read to us from our advent devotional. Every day we learned about a new prophecy.  God gave us so many prophecies about Jesus. That way we would know who He was!

Then we went to take something out of the pocket. The first day we got chocolate! The next day we got a movie to watch. It was called "Charlie Brown Christmas". My sister and I liked it. Then the next day we made cookies.  Every day there was something new in the pockets.

• Sunday, December 10, 2006 - Math Balance

My math balance is very fun! It has numbers and weights. You put a weight on the number on one side and then you split the number up so that it balances.  So you can put a weight on the number ten. Then on the other side you could put a weight on the nine and one. They would balance because nine plus one is the same as ten! Math is so fun. I really like it a lot.

• Friday, December 8, 2006 - What I Am Reading: Prince Caspian

Prince Caspian

Prince Caspian is just a funny story.  It is a story about Prince Caspian. He had lots of friends. He ran away from home. Peter, Edmund, Susan, Lucy, and Trumpkin went to look for him. Trumpkin is a little dwarf or something. First they met Aslan. Aslan is a lion. Then they traveled with Aslan until they found Caspian.  Caspian was with all of his friends in a tower.  They all had a fight and then they went back through the magic wardrobe. Then they were back in their old clothes. It was so strange.

• Sunday, November 12, 2006 - Spending the Day with T

T and I spent the whole day together. We made bird cone feeders. First you go for a walk and get pine cones. Then you come back home. You spread peanut butter on the pine cones and roll them in bird seed. Then you put string on them and hang them in the trees. The birds like them a lot. You have to hang them where the birds can land under it and reach it.

This morning I lost my top front tooth. I ate something to get it out. I ate an english muffin and then it came out. Then I looked for it and it was right in the middle. So I took it out and said, "Wow! I should go tell my sister and my mother!". This is my third baby tooth that I have lost.

Cells are so cool! I have been reading about them. There are so many different kinds of cells like red blood cells and muscle cells. We have so many cells in our bodies. I looked at plant cells under my microscope today. I also made a giant plant cell and a giant animal cell out of salt clay. My mom and I worked on it together. We made all of the different parts. My favorite part is the nucleous because it is like the big man in charge! Plant cells have chloroplasts which make them green. I love science!

• Thursday, October 12, 2006 - Science: One Small Square Of Desert

I have been reading about the desert. Daddy likes the desert. There are creatures in the desert. Lots of them hide during the day because it is too hot for them. They come out at night when it is cooler.

I really like the Saguaro Cactus. It is so big. Lot's of animals live inside of it. They stay alive because they hold water inside of them. At night animals come and drink the water inside of the cactus.
