Just about anything under the sun really (with the exception of topics containing unappropriate language and content … it’s gotta be kid-friendly if you know what I mean …) Could be about what my wife and kids do that mystifies me, football (which on certain days mystifies me too …), work, money, hobbies, pets, music and pop culture, etc … I’ll probably even carry on about other peoples’ comments! Home • Profile • Archives • E-mail me 10 February 2008 Monster Truck, Monster Jam! High after a testosterone-filled evening with the two-year old, I've decided to add another entry. This week's/month's blog is a discussion on the timeless male obsession with ... monster trucks! The two of us had a night out watching the Monster Jam show at the newly-built Sprint Center. Nothing against the venue, but they should of booked it in a bigger arena or even a stadium. It looked kind of silly with these six giant trucks/cars driving around a small track. The little one didn't seem to mind it though, he was more interested in the jumps, crashes and smashes that were taking place. Oh yeah, it was LOUD too. He couldn't wait to tell Mom about the trucks jumping up onto a "mountain." As cheesy as the show may have been, I can't imagine building one of those things. Besides the monetary costs (I read an inexpensive one cost around $200,000 to fully build), just coming up with the concept of the things are mind-boggling. Besides being just plain huge, the vehicles have to run properly and also meet safety codes. Besides, who would want to get in and jump/smash around in one of those with only a seatbelt? Everyone under 21 do not answer that ... It also looked like we missed the big show by going the second night (it runs for three days straight) because some of the trucks were in not-so-mint condition. One was missing it's front right bumper, others were missing their rear coverings. It all kind of reminds me of my hometown, where half the teenage/early 20-year olds owned and drove some sort of modified truck. No, yours truly never had one, but if I had the money and resources I probably would have. Now there were never any as big as what we had seen that evening, but they were big enough to compete in the county fair's 'Mud Bowl'. Anyways, back to the original rambling, the initial cost of one of these things is huge, but if one were to get damaged (which I imagine is quite often whether large or small) it must be costly to repair. AND the insurance costs! They must be State Farm's nightmare policyholder. Or maybe it is Geico? They would probably save a bundle ... Well, I'm sure that the show's revenue and team 'winnings' more than make up for the cost of damages, and besides it's too cool not to see. I'm just glad my 'date' was into it. Drive safely!
