Hey everybody, I'm back! Whew. I never imagined that my throat would hurt this bad. it feels like nothing I have ever felt in my life. It's a struggle to breathe, sleep, swallow, move any part of my mouth and eat. All I can manage is ice chips and REALLY smooth, creamy ice cream/milkshakes. even Jello and pudding are to thick to swallow! its somewhat funny becuase I was pretty scared about the IV. but it turned out that it really didnt hurt very much at all and wasnt as near as bad as my throat. I had 2 shots and I threw up twice. I barely even felt any of that stuff because they couldnt compare to the pain in my throat! Here's what happened right before my surgery: My mom (only 1 parent allowed back), the nurse and I (I was in the bed and the nurse rolled me) went into the holding room. thats where you get prepared for sugery and all that stuff. they hooked me up to all these different kinds of moniters and the bloodpressure machine. nothing hurt, though. then they injected some kind of medicine into my IV and the nurse told me that in a few minutes I'd feel wierd, light-headed, and somewhat sleepy. after about 2minutes I felt so strange. I couldnt focuse to look at anything! my mom (who was sitting beside me) looked fuzzy and I'd say these wierd things that I didnt even know I was saying! (the medicine was not the medicine that puts me asleep for the surgery.....but I dont know exactly what it was for, though. all I know is that it was not the one that puts me asleep (like dead asleep,lol) for the surgery.) Then, I told my mom bye and that I loved her and she said the same and kissed me on the cheek/forehead (somewhere around there, lol) and the nurse put a warm (heated) blanket on me and wheeled me into a cold room that had those big huge lights (kinda like at a dentists office, only bigger) she told me that this is where my surgery would be. I sincerely was looking forward to going to sleep, becuase I was so tired. Then the Dr. (Dr. Meeks) came in and said "Hey! are ya ready?" and I said something like "kinda," or "maybe," or something like that and he just laughed and said "OK!" and went off to write on some charts or something. then, the nurse put a oxygen mask on me and told me to breathe in and out slowly. I did, but then somehow I got choked and started to cough and she pushed on it rather hard! Then they told me lie completely straight and strapped me down with these heavy black belt looking things. I was just a little nervous about that, lol. Then they put MORE heated blankets on me and out of the corner of my eye I saw a nurse walking around to my left with a big needle and medicine in there. She injected it into my IV (i was a little tense cuz I thought that it might burn or sting, but it didnt at all!) and said "Ok, Miss Rachael, in a few seconds you will start to fall asleep, Ok? Goodnight!" and then I remember getting all dizzy and couldnt see straight. then, I said "OK." and then something like "bye." or something like that, LOL! The next thing I remember is waking up to a nurse talking to me like "Rachael, Rachael, wake up. your surgery's done!" and, oh, the feeling in my throat and mouth...I will NEVER forget it!!!! It hurt SO bad,.....I dont even know how to explain it! I wanted to go back to sleep! I then remember feeling tear drops going down my eyes becuase it hurt so bad. She then poked a plastic spoon with ice in it at me and said "eat this." so I ate it. it helped only a little. the pain was so unexplainable! then she said "Hun, are ya ready to go back to your room with your mom and dad?" I nodded my head becuase it hurt so much to talk. I remember that I had a terrible horrible headache and when we went down the elevator, there was sunshine coming in from the windows(does that make sense?) and it hurt my head so bad! I just closed my eyes and thanked God that I was alive. lol. and I asked him to take this horrible pain away if it was his will. Then we went into the room and I heard the DR. talking to my mom and dad and he said "Yes, her tonsils were very huge and scarry," and then my mom said something I couldnt make out. while the 2 nurses and DR. were in there, I kept the tears from pouring out and as soon as they left, they came flowing. My mom said something like "Bless your heart," or something like that and rubbed my forehead and my dad came and asked me if I was OK. I think I nodded. then, I really cant remember everything...I guess its because I was in so much pain, I dont know. I do know that we had a nurse (older lady) who was SO mean and SO not-understanding. at one point my mom went to her and said that I was hurting VERY bad and she said "oh, she shouldnt be hurting THAT bad," and didnt give me any medicine and the DR. got mad at her. and, when she discharged me, I had no medicine, and I was so shakey and dizzy and in so much pain I couldnt move. and she said "Come on, get your clothes on and then we'll take out to your car!" I was like "what!?!" lol, becuase there was NO way I could even move! but, I slowly (slower than a turtle, more than likely!) climbed outta bed and got dressed. then, later, while she was rolling me in the wheel chair down to where my dad had the car parked, she said she was in a hurry to go and trick-or-treat with her grandson. But, I am SO SO SO SO glad to be back in my own home, my own bed, and eat whatever I want with no nurse telling me I cant eat my ice! lol!
